The show is based on the book of the same name by Lucy Score and is the first of three books in Score’s so-called Knockemout series. The TV adaptation was first reported to be in the works at Amazon in September 2025. As previously reported, Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder wrote the pilot and will serve as showrunners and executive producers.

“’Things We Never Got Over’ has everything we love in great television: an irresistible enemies-to-lovers romance, quirk, comedy, and a community you never want to leave,” said Charmelo and Snyder. “Lucy Score built a wildly passionate fanbase around these characters, and we’re excited to introduce the world of Knockemout to Prime Video audiences everywhere.”

The logline for “Things We Never Got Over” states:

“Runaway bride Naomi Witt heads from the altar straight into trouble when her estranged twin sister, Tina, calls her to small-town-Virginia, steals her car, phone, and purse and leaves Naomi stranded in an unfamiliar town with a teenage niece in her care and a grouchy but very sexy local who turns out to be her knight in tattooed armor.”

Along with Charmelo and Snyder, Gina Girolamo serves as an executive producer through her production company, Strega Stories. Score also serves as an executive producer. Amazon MGM Studios will produce.

“I feel so lucky that this career has put me in the company of so many brilliant, generous storytellers,” said Score. “I’m thrilled that Gina, Eric, and Nicole, as well as the incredibly talented writers, are bringing ‘Things We Never Got Over’ to life. Readers can rest assured that the characters we all love so deeply on the page are in the best possible hands to be brought to life on screen.”

Girolamo is repped by McKuin Frankel Whitehead. Score is repped by Bookcase Literary Agency and attorney Eric S. Brown. Charmelo and Snyder are repped by UTA, Literate, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

“Lucy Score has created the kind of romantic, emotional, and deeply addictive world that readers never want to leave,” said Peter Friedlander, global head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “’Things We Never Got Over’ has everything audiences love about a great small-town romance—heart, humor, found family, undeniable chemistry, and characters you root for from the very first page. We’re thrilled to work with Lucy, Nicole, Eric, and Gina to bring Naomi’s story, and the beloved world of Knockemout, to Prime.”

Amazon has found great success in recent years with TV adaptations of novel series. Among their string of hits in the space are “Reacher,” “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “Bosch,” “Scarpetta,” “Off Campus,” and “We Were Liars.”
