The series follows Neve Harper (Moss), a confident attorney who finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder in which the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire. “But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve,” per the logline, “she is forced to compromise every legal, moral and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal — or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”

Kidd’s role is under wraps, but he joins a cast that also includes Linda Emond, Jimmi Simpson, Sebastian De Souza, Adam Godley, Zainab Jah, Ashley Zukerman and José Zúñiga.

“Conviction” is based on the Jack Jordan novel of the same name and was greenlit at Hulu in February. The showrunner is David Shore (“House,” “The Good Doctor”), who will serve as executive producer alongside Moss and Lindsey McManus under Moss’ Love & Squalor Pictures banner, as well as Jordan; The Littlefield Co.’s Warren Littlefield, Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison; Bert Salke of Co-Lab21; and Erin Gunn for Shore Z Productions.

McKidd is best known for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” where he recently ended his 18-year run playing Owen Hunt. He also starred opposite Ewan McGregor in Danny Boyle’s “Trainspotting,” and his credits include HBO’s “Rome,” NBC’s “Journeyman,” Pixar’s animated film “Brave” and the comedy thriller “Home Sweet Hell” with Katherine Heigl and Patrick Wilson. McKidd is also the founder of the production Ferryman Films, which champions original storytelling tied to McKidd’s Scottish heritage.
