Sarah Quintrell, who penned nine out of the 10 episodes of the acclaimed “Pride & Prejudice” spinoff series, is writing all three parts based on storylines by author Janice Hadlow. Series director Asim Abbasi is also returning.

The special is set to shoot in Wales this summer and will feature Ella Bruccoleri as Mary, the titular other Bennet sister, alongside other familiar faces from the series. Based on Hadlow’s novel of the same name, the show follows the oft-overlooked middle sister in the Bennet family as she navigates the societal pressures of Regency-era England.

When it premiered earlier this year, “The Other Bennet Sister” broke records for BritBox in the U.S. and Canada, driving five times more new subscribers to the streamer in its first five weeks than any other series and helping it achieve the strongest quarter yet in terms of subscriber growth. Over in the U.K., the show had the biggest launch for a new drama across all platforms since May 2025, garnering 7.3 million viewers in its first 28 days.

“The Other Bennet Sister” is produced by Bad Wolf for BritBox North America and the BBC. The special was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One and Jon Farrar, chief content officer of direct to consumer at BBC Studios, for BritBox North America. The executive producers are Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter for Bad Wolf, Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, Robert Schildhouse, Farrar and Jess O’Riordan for BritBox, Quintrell and Hadlow. The series has been developed and overseen by Bad Wolf’s managing director Dan McCulloch and chief creative officer Ryan Rasmussen.

“We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet’s story, but the response to ‘The Other Bennet Sister’ has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations,” said Tranter, executive producer and CEO of Bad Wold. “These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins. Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas.”

Added O’Riordan, executive producer and commissioning executive at BritBox: “We know how much audiences have fallen in love with Mary Bennet, and we’re thrilled that her story isn’t over yet. We are so pleased Mary’s story will continue for three more chapters and to welcome audiences back into the world of ‘The Other Bennet Sister’ this holiday season.”

Director of BBC drama Salt said it’s “been incredibly exciting to see Mary Bennet cause such a sensation in 2026,” adding that “we could not be happier to announce this new three-part Christmas gift to her millions of fans. Marriage was just the beginning for the no-longer-so-overlooked Bennet sister, and it’s a joy to be working with Sarah, Janice and the Bad Wolf team to let viewers discover what comes next.”

Though a premiere date has not yet been set, “The Other Bennet Sister” Christmas episodes will air exclusively in the U.S. and Canada on BritBox and exclusively in the U.K. on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
