DC Studios and HBO’s “Booster Gold” TV series “won’t be moving forward,” writer David Jenkins said on Friday.c

“My ‘Booster Gold’ won’t be moving forward,” Jenkins wrote on Threads. “Can’t improve on Mahershala’s lovely statement so I’ll just apply it here as well.” He reposted a quote from Mahershala Ali’s recent GQ profile story in which the actor said he’s moving on from Marvel’s “Blade” movie after it had been announced in 2019 but never went into production.
Jenkins’ statement on “Booster Gold” quoted this post, seemingly drawing a parallel between the stalled productions: “Mahershala Ali officially confirms that he’s moved on from Marvel’s ‘Blade’: ‘For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on. Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. I feel ready to move on from the ‘Blade’ questions. Those questions are for them. They didn’t want to do it, so they should answer that question.’”
The “Booster Gold” show was announced in 2023 as part of DC Studios’ initial slate reveal for the rebooted universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Among those announcements were the “Superman” and “Supergirl” movies, which have both released in theaters, 2028’s “The Batman: Part II,” plus 2024’s “Creature Commandos” series and the “Lanterns” HBO show, which debuts next month. Other projects that were announced to be in the works were Andy Muschietti’s Batman movie titled “The Brave and the Bold,” James Mangold’s “Swamp Thing” movie, an Amanda Waller TV series and a Wonder Woman show called “Paradise Lost.” There was also a movie based on the Authority superhero team, which is no longer in development. DC Studios did not reply to Variety’s request for comment.
Jenkins, who created HBO’s “Our Flag Means Death” pirate comedy, was hired in July 2025 to pen the pilot and serve as showrunner if it was ordered to series. This past April, Gunn had said that “The Authority” was no longer in the works, but added that “Booster Gold” remained in development and “Paradise Lost” was in “extreme development.”
Booster Gold is a time-traveling hero from the future who goes back in time to the present and pretends to be a celebrity. He’s known for his cocky attitude, teaming up with fellow hero Blue Beetle and traveling with his robot companion Skeets. Booster Gold has appeared as a supporting character in several animated DC shows, but he’s yet to headline a live-action series.
