\n\tThe 28th Shanghai International Film Festival has unveiled the competition lineup for its Golden Goblet Awards, spanning five categories across fiction, documentary, animation, and short film. The festival runs June 12-21.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe main competition features 12 titles drawn from 15 countries and territories, all of them world premieres. Among the contenders are Indonesia\u2019s \u201cMy Own Last Supper,\u201d directed by Ismail Basbeth; \u201cNight of Blindness,\u201d a Turkey-Germany co-production from Reis \u00c7elik; and Yassine El Idrissi\u2019s Moroccan entry \u201cHalima.\u201d China is represented by two titles: \u201cAtlantic Rhapsody,\u201d directed by Zhong Kaifeng, and Liu Xiaoyang\u2019s \u201cThe Great Skull.\u201d The Chinese Mainland-Hong Kong co-production \u201cSecret in the Box,\u201d directed by Frankie Tam Gong-Yuen, also competes, alongside Nicol\u00e1s Rinc\u00f3n Gille\u2019s Belgian entry \u201cIluminada,\u201d Alan Minas\u2019s Brazil-U.K. co-production \u201cLuiza\u2019s Desert,\u201d and Daniil Merkulov\u2019s Russian entry \u201cSea Sons.\u201d Germany appears twice in the lineup \u2013 Josef Brandl\u2019s \u201cSuperbuhei\u201d and Susanne Heinrich\u2019s \u201cThe Miserable Mother,\u201d the latter sharing its world premiere with the Munich International Film Festival. Louis Godbout\u2019s Canadian entry \u201cThe Parking Spot\u201d rounds out the section.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe main competition jury is chaired by Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai. The seven-member panel also includes Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha, Chinese director Guan Hu, Kyrgyz director Aktan Arym Kubat, Mexican writer-director-producer Fernanda Valadez, Chinese actor Xin Zhilei, and Georgian director D\u00e9a Kulumbegashvili.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Asian New Talent section, which spotlights debut and second features by Asian directors, draws 12 titles from across the continent and beyond. India-Germany co-production \u201cHunter\u2019s Moon,\u201d directed by Ridham Janve, competes alongside Sompot Chidgasornpongse\u2019s \u201c9 Temples to Heaven,\u201d fresh off its Cannes debut, and Kazakh director Alibi Mukushev\u2019s \u201cNo Good in Sight: A Story.\u201d Ishtiyak Ahmad Zihad\u2019s Bangladesh-Germany co-production \u201cThe Blind Girl and an Elephant\u201d is among the section\u2019s world premieres, as are B\u00fc\u015fra B\u00fclb\u00fcl\u2019s Turkish entry \u201cAbout the Mother,\u201d Zaid Abu Hamdan\u2019s Jordan-KSA co-production \u201cBoomah,\u201d and Narghiza Dotieva\u2019s Kyrgyz film \u201cSkylark.\u201d China contributes four titles: \u201cCassowary\u201d (Zhang Hanyi), \u201cHer First Taste\u201d (Gong Yiwen), and \u201cNo Hard Feelings\u201d (Liu Shichuan), alongside Mak Tin Shu\u2019s Chinese Mainland-Hong Kong co-production \u201cDog Day Evening.\u201d Wan Bo\u2019s \u201cStrangers in the Mountain\u201d also competes.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Asian New Talent jury is presided over by Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen, joined by Indonesian director and screenwriter Kamila Andini, Chinese director and screenwriter Liu Jiayin, Kazakh director and screenwriter Farkhat Sharipov, and Taiwanese actor Wen Qi.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe documentary competition presents five world premieres. Chinese entry \u201cNotes Unheard,\u201d directed by Gu Yun, competes alongside Chilean documentary \u201cThe Tiger of the East\u201d (Jorge Acevedo), Spanish film \u201cBenigno\u201d (David Baute), Elena Chemerska\u2019s North Macedonia-Croatia-Slovenia co-production \u201cRuins,\u201d and \u201cWheels of Forgotten Dreams,\u201d directed by Milos Ljubomirovic and Danilo Lazovic from Serbia, Bulgaria, and Croatia.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe animation section fields five features. Brazil\u2019s \u201cAmadeo and the Hypothetical New World,\u201d co-directed by Brenda L\u00edgia and Edu Felistoque, competes with Linda Hamb\u00e4ck\u2019s Scandinavian co-production \u201cDante,\u201d Ronny Gani\u2019s Indonesian entry \u201cGaruda: Dare to Dream,\u201d French film \u201cLucy Lost\u201d (Olivier Clert), and \u201cWinnipeg, Seeds of Hope,\u201d a Spain-Chile-Argentina co-production directed by Elio Guiroga and Be\u00f1at Beitia.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 28th SIFF is guided by the China Film Administration and hosted by China Media Group alongside the Shanghai Municipal People\u2019s Government.<\/p>\n
