\nEmily Blunt is \u201cterrified\u201d of AI and chose not to rely on it during a pivotal sequence in Steven Spielberg\u2019s upcoming film \u201cDisclosure Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Spielberg-directed sci-fi film follows a Kansas City TV meteorologist, played by Blunt, who is suddenly overcome by a mysterious extraterrestrial force while taping a weather segment live on air.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actress told \u201cHot Ones\u201d host Sean Evans in the show\u2019s latest episode that the key scene features her character speaking in a non-human language. \u201cIt\u2019s a four-minute oner that we shot that leads up to that moment where she\u2019s gradually sort of disintegrating.\u201d She went on to say, \u201cThere\u2019s various ways you could do it. You could go the AI route, which I\u2019m a bit terrified of. I thought I could make some really strange sounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tInstead, Blunt opted to record the sound organically.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI said maybe I could come in and we\u2019ll just do a range of weird sounds. And it\u2019s what we did,\u201d she said. \u201cI did sort of the clicking sounds, I did sort of humming sounds, consonant sounds, breathing strange sounds.\u201d Strategically placed mics allowed the sound team to capture everything they needed, Blunt said: \u201cThe sound designer went away and created that weird sound.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDisclosure Day\u201d is set to hit theaters June 12. The film also stars Josh O\u2019Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe logline reads, \u201cIf you found out we weren\u2019t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to \u2026 \u2018Disclosure Day.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpielberg developed the story with screenwriter David Koepp, who previously collaborated with him on the films \u201cJurassic Park,\u201d \u201cJurassic Park: The Lost World,\u201d \u201cWar of the Worlds\u201d and \u201cIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDisclosure Day\u201d marks the 37th film Spielberg has directed. The auteur\u2019s filmography is packed with high-profile sci-fi titles, including two \u201cJurassic Park\u201d movies and \u201cWar of the Worlds,\u201d in addition to \u201cClose Encounters of the Third Kind,\u201d \u201cE.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,\u201d \u201cMinority Report,\u201d \u201cA.I. Artificial Intelligence\u201d and \u201cReady Player One.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso in the \u201cHot Ones\u201d episode, Blunt shared that Spielberg\u2019s 1975 classic \u201cJaws\u201d is her favorite movie of all time. \u201cA lot of people I know watched it when they were kids,\u201d she said. \u201cI think if you watch it as an adult it takes on a whole different form of storytelling. \u2026 There\u2019s so many beautiful themes that there are in all of Steven\u2018s movies. That it\u2019s high-stakes action and it\u2019s, you know, it\u2019s big-scale storytelling. But I think he has this emotional grounding running through all of it in this humanity. So \u2018Jaws\u2019 will be it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, she said that \u201cMary Poppins Returns\u201d was her most frightening on-set experience ever. In the 2018 movie, she was filming the British nanny\u2019s arrival from up in the clouds. \u201cI was terrified. I did three takes before my tolerance snapped and I was done,\u201d she said. \u201cYou get up there and you go 25 feet, 30 feet, 40 feet, 60 feet. And I was like, \u2018Nope.\u2019 And the only thing you have, you just hope the wires are holding you. \u2026 And so I just ended up hanging there, waiting for them to call action like that. Like, looking up at the sky where I had no point of reference, but that was the most scared I\u2019ve been.\u201d<\/p>\n
