\n\tEverything is squared away for the highly anticipated sequel to the hit \u201cMinecraft\u201d movie, which is now officially titled \u201cA Minecraft Movie Squared.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA Minecraft Movie,\u201d Warner Bros. and Legendary\u2019s PG adventure headlined by Jack Black and Jason Momoa, dominated the spring 2025 box office. The film \u2014 which follows a group of misfits who are pulled through a portal into a cubic world and guided by an expert crafter named Steve (played by Black) \u2014\u00a0debuted to a record $163 million domestic opening and ultimately grossed $960 million worldwide. Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry and Jennifer Coolidge also starred in the movie, based on the massively popular video game.<\/p>\n

\n\tProduction is currently underway for the sequel, with Jared Hess returning to direct and Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst joining the cast. Hess also co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Galletta. \u201cA Minecraft Movie Squared\u201d is dated for theatrical release on July 23, 2027. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Berry returns in an undisclosed part, Dunst will play Alex, the female counterpart to \u201cMinecraft\u2019s\u201d Steve. Her role was revealed in a behind-the-scenes video included in a TwitchCon presentation livestreamed on Saturday morning. <\/p>\n

\n\tWarner Bros. and Legendary revealed the title on Saturday to kick off a contest for creators to build something in the \u201cMinecraft\u201d video game that could be featured in the movie or the end credits. The winner of the challenge will also get to attend a private screening of the sequel with their friends. More details about the contest can be found on \u201cMinecraft\u2019s\u201d website.<\/p>\n

\n\tProducers for the \u201cMinecraft\u201d sequel include Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans \u00d3lafsson, Momoa and the late Jill Messick. Executive producers are Jay Ashenfelter, Jen Conroy, Brian Mendoza, Jon Berg and Jonathan Spaihts.<\/p>\n
