{"id":1278,"date":"2026-06-03T17:43:34","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T17:43:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=1278"},"modified":"2026-06-03T17:43:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T17:43:34","slug":"boomah-gritty-new-feature-from-daughters-of-abdulrahman-director-zaid-abu-hamdan-set-for-shanghai-film-festival-bow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=1278","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Boomah,\u2019 Gritty New Feature From \u2018Daughters of Abdulrahman\u2019 Director Zaid Abu Hamdan, Set For Shanghai Film Festival Bow"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<!-- do not apply CSS styles to this element! --><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\n\tJordanian director Zaid Abu Hamdan is set to launch the follow up to his female empowerment drama \u201cDaughters of Abdulrahman,\u201d the gritty crime thriller \u201cBoomah,\u201d set to soon bow from the Shanghai International Film Festival that is becoming an increasingly prominent launching pad for Arab cinema.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=1276\">\u2018Bicycle Thief,\u2019 Iroller Media\u2019s Indian Drama, Lands European and U.S. Distribution With Norse Key Productions (EXCLUSIVE)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tShot in Jordan during an especially challenging period for the war-torn region, \u201cBoomah\u201d segues from Hamdan\u2019s dramedy about four semi-estranged\u00a0sisters who join forces to contend with the Jordanian patriarchy with what is being described in promotional materials as \u201ca raw, emotionally charged crime thriller about survival, motherhood and the people society leaves behind\u201d that captures a side of Jordan rarely seen on screen.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWith \u201cBoomah\u201d the Jordanian helmer continues to explore the female empowerment space with this tale of a notorious and knife-savvy female gang member, the film\u2019s titular character, who becomes embroiled in a power struggle between street thugs and religious extremists while battling the traumas of her harrowing orphaned past. <\/p>\n<p>\n\tLeading \u201cBoomah\u201d is Jordanian actress Rakeen Saad, known for her central roles in Netflix hit original series \u201cAlRawabi School for Girls\u201d and \u201cThe Giza Killer\u201d and who also has a part in Terrence Malick\u2019s long-gestating biblical drama \u201cThe Way of the Wind.\u201d Saad is joined by Majd Eid (\u201cOnce Upon a Time in Gaza\u201d), Joanna Arida (\u201cAlRawabi School for Girls\u201d), and Hanan Hilo (\u201cDaughters of Abdulrahman\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cBoomah was born from very local wounds, but its heart is universal: the need to belong, the pain of being unseen, and what happens when survival and pain become a language,\u201d said Zaid Abu Hamdan in a statement for<em> Variety.<\/em> \u201cI was inspired by stories of real women in Jordan who were feared, judged, and misunderstood, but rarely truly seen. It is labour, currency and survival. What drew us to the film was not the violence, but the humanity underneath it. Beneath the crime thriller is a story about motherhood, belonging and people fighting to carve out a place for themselves in a world that has already decided they don\u2019t matter. That is why the film travels beyond Jordan. These people exist everywhere,\u201d Chakra continued.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cBoomah\u201d was produced by Chakra\u2019s Front Row Productions, the production arm of Front Row Filmed Entertainment, in collaboration with Bounce Productions. The film received support from the Red Sea Fund and the Royal Film Commission \u2013 Jordan.
