\n\tTom Holland made headlines in 2021 when he told GQ magazine that \u201cif I\u2019m playing Spider-Man after I\u2019m 30, I\u2019ve done something wrong.\u201d Well, not only is Holland officially 30 right now but he\u2019s also got a new \u201cSpider-Man\u201d movie, \u201cBrand New Day,\u201d opening in theaters July 31 and does not have any immediate plans to stop playing the web-slinger. So is Holland eating his words? Not exactly.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s funny, I saw that quote pop up somewhere recently and I kind of reeled, because I was trying to remember what I meant,\u201d Holland recently told GQ magazine for the publication\u2019s summer cover story on Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d adaptation. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think the point of it is that I would love to pass the baton on, and I haven\u2019t achieved that yet,\u201d the actor explained. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely something that we talk about a lot at the studio. So maybe I need to change the quote to 37. I could also have been trying to leverage Sony and scare them into thinking I wasn\u2019t going to do\u00a0\u2018Spider-Man\u00a04\u2019 now that I had a new deal on the horizon. So I don\u2019t know what it could have been. It could\u2019ve been part of a strategy to create\u00a0fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHolland concluded, \u201cI think the truth is that playing Spider-Man has been the joy of my life. I now kind of stand on the plinth of like, I\u2019ll do it for as long as they\u2019ll have me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOver the years, Holland has played a main role in the workings of his \u2018Spider-Man\u201d movies. He called on Sony Pictures to delay the production of \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d so that he could act in Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d and he made a personal plea to Disney\u2019s CEO Bob Iger in 2019 in which he cried over the phone while asking Disney and Sony to reach a new deal to keep his Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTom reached out to folks who worked for me, \u2018Could I please have Bob\u2019s email address or phone number?\u2019 Of course I\u2019m very protected and they were very careful,\u201d Iger said at the time. \u201cI said, \u2018Sure, have him contact me.\u2019 And he did. We spoke. Basically he made a\u2026 he cried on the phone\u2026 it was clear that he cared so much and actually we care a lot about him. He\u2019s a great Spider-Man. I actually felt for him, and it was clear that the fans wanted this to happen. So after I got off the phone with him I made a couple of phone calls to our team at Disney Studios and then I decided to call the head of Sony and I said, \u2018We gotta figure out a way to get this done.\u2019 For Tom and for the fans. And we did. That\u2019s how it happened. He called me and I called them.\u201d<\/p>\n
