\n\tThe first new \u201cSpyro\u201d game in nearly two decades will release next spring from developer Toys for Bob in collaboration with Microsoft\u2019s Activision. <\/p>\n

\n\tTom Kenny, the original voice of Spyro, will be reprising his role as the iconic purple dragon for the project.<\/p>\n

\n\tTitled \u201cSpyro: A Real Beyond,\u201d is described as \u201ca completely original adventure featuring a brand new world, expanded exploration and new gameplay that evolve the classic experience in exciting ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPer Toys for Bob (the studio behind the \u201cSpyro: Reignited Trilogy\u201d and \u201cCrash Bandicoot 4: It\u2019s About Time\u201d), \u201cBuilt to welcome a new generation while giving longtime fans something entirely fresh, \u2018Spyro: A Realm Beyond\u2018 invites players to explore, discover, and take flight like never before. That\u2019s right; not gliding, not a limited set of flight levels. True dragon flight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Toys for Bob associate creative director Lou Studdert says the team is \u201cnot talking specific narrative beats just yet,\u201d he did tease how the inspiration from the original games led to the dragon-flight feature.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the things that we love to do when working on a franchise, be it Crash Bandicoot or Spyro, is we dive head first into figuring out what makes that franchise, that character tick,\u201d Studdert told Variety<\/em>. \u201cWe play the heck out of all the games. We evaluate what resonated with fans. We evaluate what resonates with us. And for us, it\u2019s about managing that tone, it\u2019s about managing that personality, and making sure that\u2019s preserved. It\u2019s about finding that whimsy and that fun, and also those gameplay things that we want to amplify.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued: \u201cThat\u2019s been the focus for \u2018Beyond,\u2019 and that\u2019s why we landed on dragon play. We figured, hey, these are all these disparate elements, and we want to unify that into the base core kit of our playable character. And then from there, what does that actually mean, and how do we then amplify that into the gameplay?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Toys for Bob team has been mum on the new \u201cSpyro\u201d game for years, even through its spinoff from Microsoft\u2019s Activision (which it\u2019s still partnered with to publish \u201cSpyro: A Realm Beyond\u201d) in 2024, they\u2019ve been quietly listening and gathering fan feedback.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the things that we love about Spyro and this franchise is the fan base is very vocal about what they love,\u201d Toys for Bob chief creative officer and studio head Paul Yan said. \u201cEvery year, they are very committed to being vocal about wanting a new title. So that\u2019s another part of the excitement: finally being able to confirm to them that, yes, we hear you. What we were paying attention to, during especially during the \u2018Reignited Trilogy, is what are the qualities that players love about this? So dragon flight is a great additive into that to take things to the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n
