\nSavannah Guthrie sat in for Sheinelle Jones on the fourth hour of \u201cToday,\u201d and got emotional as she explained to Jenna Bush Hager what it\u2019s been like going back to work while her mother, Nancy, is still missing.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI can\u2019t really even look at you every day without crying,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cYou are my best friend and you know it\u2019s really hard to come back. I\u2019ve been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added, \u201cWhen I see you in the morning, I know that you see me, no matter what is going on. Sometimes, that\u2019s almost too much because I feel like to do the job, I gotta keep it together. But I\u2019m happy to be back and it\u2019s like two hours of my day that \u2014 it\u2019s not that I\u2019m not thinking about it, because I am \u2014 but it\u2019s something to do. It brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody. It\u2019s not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Nancy is always on her mind, Guthrie added that going back to work has brought a \u201clittle respite.\u201d She said the team at \u201cToday\u201d is like \u201cfamily,\u201d and that if she had any other job, she wouldn\u2019t have \u201ceven tried to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just felt like, \u2018What else should I do?\u2019\u201d She said. \u201cAnd my mom would\u2019ve said the same: \u2018Just keep going, just keep going.\u2019 And it\u2019s hard when you\u2019re with your best friend to not be real.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGuthrie went on to explain that she is still very much working out her grief, and taking every day \u201cstep by step.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s always with me,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cI cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home. I\u2019m grateful to have good friends, and to be able to come to such a beautiful, joyous, and supportive place, and like so many people out there, you can hold all of these things together.\u201d<\/p>\n
