\n\tIndependent distribution company Persimmon has acquired distribution rights for the U.S. and several international territories to the mystery film \u201cDeath on the Brandywine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKate Burton (\u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d), Rena Sofer (\u201c24\u201d), Tuc Watkins (\u201cParadise\u201d), Jay Huguley (\u201cCape Fear\u201d), Walt Willey (\u201cAll My Children\u201d), Shanley Caswell (\u201cNCIS: New Orleans\u201d) and Guy Nardulli (\u201cTulsa King\u201d) star, with Satomi Hofmann as amateur investigator Professor Millie Park.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to the U.S., the deal covers Canada, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India. Written and directed by Nick Wilkinson and produced by Lisa G. Black and Nick Wilkinson, it tells the story of a beloved senator who is found dead at his son\u2019s high-profile campaign fundraiser. His daughter is determined to prove it wasn\u2019t a suicide and uncover the truth. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInspired by my admiration for the work of Agatha Christie, I wanted to blend intrigue with emotional depth, suspense with dark humor,\u201d said Wilkinson. \u201c\u2019Death on the Brandywine\u2019 offers a satirical look at how image, ambition, and power collide in contemporary America. I\u2019m delighted that Persimmon shares that vision and is partnering with us to bring the film to audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film will debut June 24 in New York with a limited theatrical release, followed by digital release on Apple, Amazon and Fandango. Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard Segel of Storyboard Media negotiated the deal and behalf of the filmmakers, with Mackenzie Maguire on behalf of Persimmon.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 29th Brooklyn Film Festival has announced the winners of its 2026 awards, including Mehrnoush Alia\u2019s\u00a0\u201c1001 Frames,\u201d which received the festival\u2019s\u00a0Grand Chameleon Award.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis year\u2019s 10-day-long edition brought together an international slate of independent films across narrative, documentary, animation, experimental and short-form categories.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c1001 Frames\u201d\u00a0was also selected as\u00a0Best Narrative Feature by the jury.\u00a0\u201cCeltic Utopia,\u201d directed by Dennis Harvey and Lars Lov\u00e9n, won\u00a0Best Documentary Feature. In the short film categories,\u00a0\u201cRodrigo\u201d\u00a0by Jacob Vaughan won\u00a0Best Narrative Short,\u00a0\u201cSea Song\u201d\u00a0by An-Phuong Ly took home\u00a0Best Documentary Short,\u00a0\u201cParada\u00efz\u201d\u00a0by Matea Radic landed\u00a0Best Animation, and\u00a0\u201cThe House Left Empty\u201d\u00a0by Juana Orbegozo Forero won\u00a0Best Experimental.<\/p>\n

\nAnthony \u2018Mo\u2019 Hassan to Co-star Alongside Terrence Howard and Kate Bosworth in \u2018Broken Ones\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tAnthony \u201cMo\u201d Hasan has joined the cast of the feature film \u201cBroken Ones,\u201d starring Terrence Howard and Kate Bosworth.<\/p>\n

Hasan will portray Rourke, a \u201ccold, calculated corporate enforcer\u201d who works for Kathleen Sloane (Bosworth). Described as \u201cimposing and unflappable under pressure,\u201d Rourke specializes in high-stakes corporate damage control and finds himself at the center of a pivotal confrontation with the film\u2019s protagonist, Joseph (Howard), as he aggressively protects his client\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cBroken Ones\u201d is directed by Timothy Gagliardo, and the logline reads, \u201cWhen a tech company\u2019s autonomous SUV causes a tragic crash involving a local pregnant woman, a ruthless corporate fixer moves quickly to suppress the fallout. Refusing to let the victim be exploited, Joseph steps up to defend his community, igniting a high-stakes legal battle against a powerful corporate machine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film is currently in production in Kansas City and marks Hasan\u2019s feature film acting debut. Hasan currently serves as a football color commentator for broadcasts airing nationally on NBC and NFL Network.<\/p>\n

\nAcademy Adds 15 Partners for Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Program; Submissions Open Through The Black List<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Academy has added 15 partners for its 2026-2027 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting program, including the University of Southern California, The Writers Lab and the Austin Film Festival; 55 total partners now support the program.<\/p>\n

\n\tSubmissions for the fellowship through The Black List are open today through July 6, or when 2,500 entries have been received. Public submissions through the Writers Guild Foundation open June 22 through July 20, or when 2,000 entries have been received. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAfter the incredible success of the Nicholl Fellowships last year, the Academy is thrilled to continue expanding this global program through our partners around the world as we deepen our commitment to discovering and championing emerging screenwriters,\u201d Academy governor and Academy Foundation Board president Kim Taylor-Coleman said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\n\tAll scripts are read by Academy members and five writers are ultimately selected for the fellowship. They receive direct mentorship from Academy members, networking opportunities, and are invited to participate in pitch workshops and meet-and-greets.<\/p>\n
