\n\tChloe Zhao\u2019s drama \u201cNomadland\u201d may have been an Oscars favorite, winning prizes for best picture and more, but it wasn\u2019t one for Academy member Jennifer Lopez. During a recent appearance on her \u201cOffice Romance\u201d co-star Brett Goldstein\u2019s podcast, \u201cFilms to Be Buried With,\u201d Goldstein asked: \u201cWhat\u2019s the worst film you\u2019ve ever seen?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to say \u2018worst\u2019 because it\u2019s a beautiful film,\u201d Lopez prefaced before naming \u201cNomadland,\u201d which also picked up Oscars for best actress and best director. Lopez elaborated that the indie drama is her \u201cworst type of film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can tell from my taste in movies what I think about this,\u201d Lopez said, listing musicals and comedies as her favorite genres and highlighting the likes of \u201cWest Side Story\u201d and \u201cFlashdance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not why I go to the movies,\u201d the actress-singer explained. \u201cI like musicals. I like romantic comedies. I like thrillers, you know? And [\u2018Nomadland\u2019] is a slow-moving thing about grief, and there\u2019s no escapism to it. And I do like some movies like that\u2026 but that one I just didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Jessica Bruder\u2019s nonfiction book \u201cNomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century,\u201d Zhao\u2019s movie stars McDormand as Fern, a widow in her 60s who loses everything in the 2007-2009 recession and begins living in her van and traveling across the U.S. <\/p>\n

Lopez added that she appreciated McDormand\u2019s \u201camazing\u201d performance and said \u201cthere\u2019s no surprise\u201d that the movie won the actress her third and fourth Oscars: \u201cShe deserves all the Oscars. But I just didn\u2019t enjoy it. It\u2019s just not for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a taste thing,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd I know we need movies about grief! I understand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goldstein responded, \u201cYou just don\u2019t wanna watch them,\u201d to which Lopez agreed, saying it was similar to her reluctance to watch horror films, the only exception being Dave Franco and Alison Brie\u2019s \u201cTogether,\u201d which convinced her the genre had \u201cevolved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOffice Romance,\u201d which follows two workaholics and a secret workplace relationship, premiered June 6 on Netflix.<\/p>\n
