He dreams of becoming a Dad, but can\u2019t lay an egg. Then a volcanic eruption plops a curious soft echidna\u2019s egg in his path. What if this was the little one he had been waiting for?<\/p>\n<p>\n\tTargeting family audiences from age 5 and up, \u201cThe Little Run\u201d is set up at Bisaro and Paoletti\u2019s boutique studio Picolo Pictures. I can\u2019t wait to share this story \u2013 which is especially close to our hearts \u2013 with a large audience thanks to the partners and exceptional artists who came together for the film,\u201d Paoletti said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNeither Cookie nor the echidna talk. \u201cWe played a lot with pantomime when writing and staging. We draw on silent cinema, which allowed us to develop Chaplin-esque situational comedy that dispenses with dialogue,\u201d Bisaro told <em>Variety<\/em> at the 2023 Annecy Animation Festival.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThe graphic design is in 2D with no outline. It\u2019s like painting with light and shadow. Still, there are also times when the image is more realistic, with less saturated tones. It really depends on the intentions and the register of the scene,\u201d he added, noting that \u201cat the heart of the film is our wish to tell the story of a family bond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAn earlier image, below, captured Cookie\u2019s torpor as he nudges the small fury echidna with his bill. Hailed as \u201ca tender and visually rich adventure exploring inter-species adoption, attachment, and chosen family\u201d with \u201can immersive sensory relationship to nature, painterly 2D aesthetic and strong emotional core,\u201d \u201cThe Little Run\u201d marks Bisaro and Paoletti\u2019s feature debut. <\/p>\n<p>\n\tIt follows up \u201cShooom\u2019s Odyssey,\u201d where plucky hatchling Shoom sets out to find her mother or a replacement. It won Annecy\u2019s 2020 Cristal Award for best TV project and an Annie for outstanding achievement for production design in an animated TV\/media production.
