\nKieron Moore hopes that people don\u2019t know much about \u201cBlue Film\u201d before they watch the movie.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s really good to go in as blind as you can,\u201d the actor tells me. \u201cThat\u2019s getting harder to do but I think we found an intelligent audience that has gate kept as much information as possible. Even when I saw it for the first time, I was like, \u2018Whoa!\u2019 I forgot what it was going to feel like.\u201d\n\n\t\n\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn other words, if you plan on watching the movie, you may want to stop reading this article now and bookmark it for later.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMoore stars as Aaron Eagle, a gay cam boy who discovers that the man who has hired him for an in-person session is Hank Grant (Reed Birney), a teacher from his childhood teacher who went to prison for sexual misconduct with one of his underage students.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhat unfolds is a two-hander that is an uncomfortable, and at times utterly disturbing, look at sexual kinks and taboos.<\/p>\n

\n\tMoore, best known for his work as a homophobic recruit in Netflix\u2019s critically acclaimed \u201cBoots,\u201d was given the script for \u201cBlue Film\u201d by his manager. While many managers would likely urge their clients to not even consider<\/em> a queer movie about pedophilia, Moore\u2019s thought he was perfect for the part. \u201cI had no idea what it was about, but then the script was a real page turner for me. I was like, \u2018Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,\u2019\u201d Moore says. \u201cThen I read it three times straight off. I was like, \u2018This can\u2019t be even real.\u2019 I immediately sort of fell in love with the idea of playing him.\u201d\n\n\t\n<\/p>

\n\tA Zoom with Moore, Birney and the film\u2019s writer-director Elliot Tuttle came next. \u201cWe had a really nice read and Reed and I were sobbing in one of the scenes,\u201d Moore recalls. \u201cReed sent me this beautiful text, and then two weeks later I was in L.A. making the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe didn\u2019t have too much time to prepare, but Moore talked to content creator friends who helped answer some of his questions. \u201cIt sort of broke down the walls for me in regards to my own sort of shame, of my of taboos. Our own exploits and endeavors are completely human, normal,\u201d Moore says. \u201cI think I learned that no kink is too unordinary. I think a lot of terms that are in the movie I\u2019ve been around. I\u2019ve been very lucky to be enveloped in queer spaces and around friends that are super sex-positive so that was never really much of a shock to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continues, \u201cOne of my friends watching the movie said, \u2018How much better would the world be if we were all a bit more honest about these little parts of ourselves, the kink or shame or whatever, because we all would feel a little bit less weird and alienated. That\u2019s what I think was my biggest takeaway.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite his very convincing performance \u2013 especially the movie\u2019s opening scene that shows his work as a cam boy \u2013 Moore says it didn\u2019t come naturally. \u201cI love having my clothes on. I\u2019m a bit of a granddad,\u201d he says, laughing. \u201cSo there was something quite liberating in that\u2026and then once I got going, I was like, \u2018If I could take 5% of that confidence with me, it\u2019s so empowering.\u2019 I felt really in my body, which was really beautiful. Hopefully I\u2019ll carry that on to all the roles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt wouldn\u2019t be me if I didn\u2019t ask Moore about Netflix\u2019s surprise cancellation of \u201cBoots\u201d after just one season. While many have speculated it wasn\u2019t picked up due to political pressure from the Trump administration, the streamer\u2019s chief Ted Sarandos told me in February that was \u201cabsolutely not\u201d true.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s an answer above my pay grade in it, but I think it would be hard to defend that it wasn\u2019t a thought when it comes to decision making,\u201d Moore said. \u201cThe show was really successful, and that\u2019s all we know.\u201d<\/p>
