\n\tPeople still can\u2019t get enough of Kristin Scott Thomas and Gary Oldman in \u201cSlow Horses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve worked together before. We\u2019ve got very good acting chemistry. And it\u2019s really fun. These two characters are so brilliantly written. You can\u2019t beat great writing,\u201d she tells\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u00a0at Monte Carlo TV Festival, where she picked up Crystal Nymph Award for her career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show also has some fans in high places.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cApparently, all the MI6 and MI5, they love it. They really love watching it! We\u2019ve never seen people like this. We\u2019ve never seen the inside of these spy places.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHer character, Diana Taverner, is \u201cthe ultimate ice queen,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI mean, I have my ideas, but we will never know what she\u2019s like when she\u2019s not doing her job. She\u2019s just so ambitious and so devoted to it, and she\u2019s become this representation of security in the British Isles. She\u2019s a sort of iron woman. Not a hair out of place, perfect lipstick.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tShe adds: \u201cShe takes it to such an extreme that you have to think that it\u2019s about something else. It\u2019s just so\u2026 perfect. The clothes that she wears are fantastic. They make this shape, and this shape means power. She thinks: \u2018You want perfect? I\u2019ll give you perfect. I\u2019ll show you what that really means\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTaverner, just like everyone around her, is \u201cwrestling with her humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019re scrabbling, and they make mistakes. And they have their own egos, because they\u2019re humans. Diana and Jackson Lamb [played by Oldman], they balance each other out. He\u2019s filthy and she\u2019s perfect,\u201d she laughs.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTogether, despite themselves, they make a very good team.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter \u201cSlow Horses,\u201d the fans approach her differently now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen you are doing a TV show, you are being watched in someone\u2019s living room, on their phone. They have control of when you appear, because they press the button. When you do a film, they make the commitment to go to you,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNow, people think they know me, because I\u2019m in their living room. It\u2019s a much more personal connection. I\u2019ve really noticed that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn the theatre, people are really friendly and open. When they come up to you afterwards, they saw you on stage, and they really appreciate the work that you\u2019ve done. When you\u2019re on film, they\u2019re slightly in awe, because you\u2019re so big. But on television, the image can be the size of your phone. So suddenly, they\u2019re more powerful than you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe notes: \u201cIf I\u2019m in the street and somebody comes up to me and says, \u2018I love \u2018Slow Horses,\u2019 they feel empowered to tell you that, because they invited you into their house.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the next season already looming on the horizon, what\u2019s next for Taverner?<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019d love to see her laugh,\u201d says Scott Thomas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI mean, properly laugh, not laugh at someone, but laugh. I\u2019d love to see her sing or hum something. I\u2019d love to see her happy. You don\u2019t often see her happy. You see her satisfied, you see her gloating and you see her relieved, but you don\u2019t actually see her happy. You don\u2019t see her relaxed, ever.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tShe adds: \u201cThe one thing I do not want to have to do is get into another lift, because I hate the lighting in the lifts.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe would like to share more scenes with Oldman, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI would love to have more to do with Gary, because I find that the scenes that are between Jackson and Diana, or River and Diana, tend to be more of a problem for Diana rather than something she\u2019s just sort of solving. We don\u2019t get to hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut while Taverner is still very much the ice queen, Scott Thomas is \u201cmuch more relaxed\u201d these days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt just happens with maturity. I\u2019m less shy now. I haven\u2019t got time to be shy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLater, during the press conference at the festival,\u00a0she admits: \u201cSometimes, people have accused me of being frightening in my life. And I go: \u2018What are you talking about? I\u2019m not frightening at all.\u2019 I\u2019m terrified, so I can\u2019t be frightening. And then I saw \u2018Slow Horses.\u2019 Oh my God.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just saw the way this woman looks at people. And I thought, \u2018Oh, I get it now.\u2019 Now, I\u2019ve been really, really careful in my life to smile a lot. On purpose. It has changed my way of being, I suppose.\u201d<\/p>\n
