\nTyra Banks sued Netflix on Saturday for defamation, claiming her testimony was manipulated for the streamer\u2019s recent \u201cAmerica\u2019s Next Top Model\u201d docuseries.<\/p>\n

\n\tBanks is suing Netflix, 89 Blocks Holdings, EverWonder Studio, Netflix Music and co-directors Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan for false light, defamation by implication, breach of contract and false endorsement. According to the lawsuit, obtained by Variety<\/em>, Banks\u2019 lawyers claim the former \u201cANTM\u201d host gave \u201cReality Check: Inside America\u2019s Next Top Model\u201d a \u201cthree-and-a-half-hour\u201d interview, only to have it cut down to \u201cabout 16 minutes.\u201d What was left, according to the suit, was \u201creassembled to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed.\u201d It added that the \u201caccountability Ms. Banks took\u201d for some of the show\u2019s shortcomings \u201cended up on the cutting room floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWorse, the false narrative the producers constructed\u2014through selective editing, deliberate omission, and surgical manipulation of continuous footage\u2014included that Ms. Banks knowingly allowed a contestant to be sexually assaulted on her show, exploited that contestant\u2019s trauma for ratings, and then could not even remember it when asked,\u201d the suit read. \u201cThat narrative about Ms. Banks is a complete fabrication\u2014one that Netflix streamed to a global audience of millions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReps for Netflix did not immediately respond to Variety<\/em>\u2018s request for comment. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe suit points out one \u201cegregious example of the producers\u2019 manipulation to create a false narrative,\u201d involving \u201cANTM\u201d cycle two contestant Shadni Sullivan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the areas of interest about \u2018ANTM\u2019 over the last twenty years has been about an evening during which Ms. Sullivan was intoxicated, had intercourse with a man in Milan, and quickly confessed her infidelity to her longtime boyfriend,\u201d the suit explains. \u201cOn the Netflix Series, Ms. Sullivan is shown describing the event as an assault\u2014something Ms. Banks had never heard before and was not told during her interview. Having withheld that information, Ms. Loushy asks Ms. Banks: \u2018You remember the story with Shandi?\u2019 The episode shows Ms. Banks glance upward, say \u2018um,\u2019 and then the screen cuts to black. The implication is devastating and deliberate: that Tyra Banks cannot even remember the story of the woman who was assaulted on her show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBank\u2019s lawyers claim that the unedited \u201cfull footage\u201d shows her nodding yes and saying, \u201cI do remember her story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBanks, who hosted \u201cAmerica\u2019s Next Top Model\u201d for 22 cycles starting in 2003, is requesting a jury trial to recommend an \u201cappropriate\u201d amount of punitive damages for the offense.<\/p>\n
