\nPixar is back in theaters this month with \u201cToy Story 5,\u201d and the legendary animation studio is already in development on more sequels such as \u201cIncredibles 3,\u201d \u201cMonsters Inc. 3\u201d and \u201cCoco 2.\u201d But one hit movie Pixar has yet to franchise is \u201cRatatouille,\u201d Brad Bird\u2019s 2007 Oscar winner about the rat Remy and his dreams of becoming a chef in Paris. The film is a bonafide classic and a box office success ($623 million worldwide, which is $1 billion when adjusted for inflation). Perhaps it\u2019s only a matter of time until \u201cRatatouille 2,\u201d and Remy voice actor Patton Oswalt is waiting for the call.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cObviously, I\u2019d love if there was a\u00a0\u2018Ratatouille\u2019\u00a0sequel,\u201d Oswalt said on The Daily Beast\u2019s \u201cObsessed\u201d podcast, although he stressed that a follow-up movie depends entirely on original director Brad Bird returning with a great idea.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere was never gonna be an\u00a0\u2018Incredibles\u2019\u00a0sequel until he thought, \u2018Wait a minute. There\u00a0is\u00a0a story to tell,\u2019\u201c Oswalt said of the filmmaker. \u201cSo if he gets an idea, that\u2019s the one I wanna do. I don\u2019t wanna be the guy going, \u2018Hey, what if Remy did this?\u2019 I want it to be one of those ideas that happens that you cannot get away from. I don\u2019t want it to come from us going, \u2018All right, let\u2019s get out the legal pads and let\u2019s break down a sequel.\u2019 There are a lot of movies where that\u2019s how they\u2019re done, and it always feels inorganic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOswalt continued, \u201cI want the sequel to be not the same type of movie, but that same energy that\u00a0\u2018Terminator 2\u2019 or\u00a0\u2018Aliens\u2019\u00a0had, which is, there\u2019s an expansion of the story that we that we actually need to tell\u2026 This isn\u2019t just a money grab. And yes, by the way, we love the money, and we\u2019re gonna grab it, but we\u2019re gonna get the money by telling an amazing story with whole new dimensions that we didn\u2019t even know beforehand.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRatatouille\u201d was director Bird\u2019s follow-up to \u201cThe Incredibles,\u201d with both films winning the Oscar for best animated feature. \u201cRatatouille\u201d also picked up Oscar nominations for original score, sound editing, sound mixing and original screenplay. The movie\u2019s $623 million gross made it the sixth highest-grossing film of 2007.<\/p>\n
