\n\tSteven Sater and James Bourne have made a concept album of their new musical \u201cMurder At The Gates.\u201d In advance of the album\u2019s release on July 1, 2026, the creators are debuting a song, \u201cFuckin\u2019 Scream\u201d that features vocals from \u201cStranger Things\u201d star Gaten Matarazzo. <\/p>\n

\n\tSater is the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning creator of \u201cSpring Awakening.\u201d He wrote the book and lyrics for \u201cMurder at the Gates.\u201d Bourne is a chart-topping, multi-Platinum musician who has a solo career and was co-founder of\u00a0the\u00a0bands\u00a0Busted\u00a0and\u00a0Son of Dork. He will handle the music, production and songwriting for \u201cMurder at the Gates.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe show is more than a decade in the making, and is a black-comic murder mystery set in a Gen-Z, gated-community America. It\u2019s a dark and stormy night and Cameron is having her birthday. To her horror, her dad is throwing her a party to help her get over the worst year ever \u2014 the sudden death of her mother and a gruesome break-up from her soul-mate, the poet-rebel Ethan. All of Cam\u2019s supposed friends arrive in costume. It\u2019s all going splendidly, until the party \u201cmurder\u201d occurs. And somehow, it\u2019s real. Someone\u2019s dead. And the security system has locked down. <\/p>\n

\n\tSater says, \u201cBack in the day, when I was first conceiving \u2018Spring Awakening\u2019, I was urged to update the story to contemporary times. As I suspected, that didn\u2019t work. But that energy spilled into \u2018Murder at the Gates,\u2019 a black comic look at how totally effed life can be as a young person today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBourne adds, \u201cUnfortunately, my illness prevented me from touring last summer, but it allowed me to complete this project of my dreams, \u2018Murder at the Gates.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Matarazzo, \u201cMurder At The Gates\u201d features Milo Manheim (Disney\u2019s \u201cZombies\u201d series); Isa Briones (\u201cThe Pitt\u201d); Joy Woods (a Tony and Grammy nominee for \u201cGypsy\u201d); Helen J Shen (\u201cMaybe Happy Endin\u201d); Mason Alexander Park (\u201cCabaret\u201d); Casey Likes (\u201cBack To The Future: The Musical\u201d); and Ramin Karimloo (\u201cLes Mis\u00e9rables\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tAn early version of \u201cMurder At The Gates\u201d previously played at the New York University\u2019s Tisch School of the Arts in 2013 before two rehearsed readings at The Other Palace, London, in 2019 and more recently, a workshop with Madison Wells Media in NYC in 2024.<\/p>\n
