\n\tThe American filmmaker will accept the award in person on Sept. 28 at the Filmpodium Z\u00fcrich. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe festival paid tribute to Linklater as \u201cone of the most influential auteur filmmakers of American independent cinema \u2013 a director whose works, including the \u2018Before\u2019 trilogy and \u2018Boyhood,\u2019 have redefined cinema and shaped an entire generation.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe festival is presenting an extensive retrospective of Linklater\u2019s work in collaboration with the Filmpodium Z\u00fcrich and the Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que Suisse. Linklater will also offer insights into his work during a public masterclass.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRichard Linklater is one of the most visionary and formative directors of American independent cinema,\u201d Christian Jungen, CEO of the ZFF, said. \u201cThrough naturalistic dialogue and scenes that feel plucked straight from life, he holds up a mirror to our times and regularly brings out the very best in his actors. He is also the director of my absolute favorite film, \u2018Before Sunrise,\u2019 thanks to which I met my wife. I am therefore especially delighted to welcome him to Zurich and to share with our audiences the films that have moved me for so many years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLinklater\u2019s films include \u201cSlacker\u201d (1991), \u201cDazed and Confused\u201d (1993), the Silver Bear-winning \u201cBefore Sunrise\u201d (1995), and its sequels \u201cBefore Sunset\u201d (2004) and \u201cBefore Midnight\u201d (2013).<\/p>\n

\n\tHis epic \u201cBoyhood\u201d (2014), filmed over 12 years with the same cast, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film. His further outstanding works include \u201cSchool of Rock\u201d (2003) with Jack Black, \u201cWaking Life\u201d (2001), \u201cA Scanner Darkly\u201d (2006), and most recently \u201cHit Man\u201d (2023) and \u201cNouvelle Vague\u201d (2025).<\/p>\n

\n\tLinklater said: \u201cI am truly honored to receive the Career Achievement Award from the Zurich Film Festival. When Christian and I met at the Golden Globes, I mentioned I\u2019ve always wanted to attend one day and now seemed like the right time.
