She remembers having spirited debates with \u201cBetter Call Saul\u201d co-star Bob Odenkirk back in the day. \u201cHe would be like, \u2018well, obviously Kim thinks blah blah blah,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018yeah, well, I don\u2019t think so.\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018yes, she does,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018you can\u2019t make me say she thinks that!\u2019 It\u2019s good to have like different perspectives on the same scene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSeehorn credits Gilligan for leaving his stories and characters open to interpretation. \u201cThere are times where people are telling me their interpretation of what they think Carol is doing, thinking, or is feeling,  that it\u2019s interesting to take in,\u201d Seehorn says. \u201cIt\u2019s just a facet that I\u2019m like, \u2018oh, that could be interesting for me to explore,\u2019 or sometimes they are saying something that I already was thinking about exploring. And then there\u2019s other things, that I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m just gonna let that be your interpretation.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThat includes the viewers that are hoping Carol and Zosia (Karolina Wyndra) might get back together. A problem with that theory: Carol has snapped out of her infatuation, as she\u2019s reminded that Zosia is really a part of the hive mind that wants to also erase her humanity.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSee, complex stuff! As Emmy Phase 1 voting comes to an end on Monday, Seehorn drops by <em>Variety<\/em>\u2018s Awards Circuit Podcast to talk about \u201cPluribus\u201d theories, how her co-stars are nothing like their characters, her anticipation for Season 2 and more. She also looks back at her first time in <em>Variety<\/em> and takes the 10 Questions quiz. Listen below!<\/p>\n<p><iframe allowfullscreen=\"true\" class=\"pmc-protected-embed\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"200\" id=\"pmc-protected-embed-2\" loading=\"lazy\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/playlist.megaphone.fm?e=PMC5448116220\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\n\tGiven the tremendous success Seehorn had playing Kim Wexler on Gilligan\u2019s \u201cBetter Call Saul,\u201d she admits it was daunting starting a new collaboration \u2014 knowing that the anticipation and expectations would be tremendous.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThis was not only leaving that world but entirely different character, and sci-fi, although his \u2018X-Files\u2019 fans were thrilled that he was going back to sci-fi,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd a female lead, maybe they aren\u2019t going to want that. A lot of factors. And then probably the thing that kept me up more at night in the beginning was not wanting to disappoint Vince. He wrote this for me, and Apple took a gamble on me being the lead of it. A lot, of factors that kept me up, but at the end of the day,  I was pretty good at putting that away and realizing the best I could do to service any of those worries was to put my head down and do the work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSo, does she have any details on Season 2 yet?<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve stopped by the writer\u2019s office to have lunch or say hi, but I haven\u2019t stopped to snoop, and I haven\u2019t called and asked any of them for details,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s not because I don\u2019t care, because I care deeply. There\u2019s an immense amount of trust that their abilities far exceed whatever I was gonna show up and offer, but I also don\u2019t want to put them in a position where they are worried about what to reveal to me and what not to reveal to me. One of the reasons that we get our scripts one at a time is not to manipulate the actors. Because there are things that just aren\u2019t cemented. Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, on \u2018Saul,\u2019 would tell me that they didn\u2019t want to be in a position where they said, \u2018oh my god, this huge thing comes up in Episode 6 for you,\u2019 and then it changes, and it\u2019s not there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSeehorn first appeared in <em>Variety<\/em> on Aprul 26, 1996, via a production chart listing for the independent film \u201cFloating.\u201d \u201cI hadn\u2019t moved out here yet,\u201d Seehorn recalls. \u201cThat is a for real, legit indie. Tiny budget, self-funded. I remember that I shot it in Washington, D.C.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBack then, she was doing theater in the D.C. area, and every once in a while indie films or productions would do through the area. \u201cI remember \u2018Nixon\u2019 was shooting there and Barry Levinson would shoot something in Baltimore, and we\u2019d all hustle over there,\u201d she says. \u201cI think \u2018Homicide\u2019 was still being shot in Baltimore at the time. I think that was my first full episode of a television series. And then, as I\u2019ve spoken about in the press before, another way that people would get on-camera experience in the theater community there was doing industrials, in-house training videos. Because there\u2019s so many, not just government buildings, but flagship headquarters for different companies, so you would do training videos, which was kind of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>10 QUESTIONS WITH RHEA SEEHORN:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>1. Childhood nickname:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201c\u2018Britches.\u2019 I had a habit, I\u2019ve been told, as a toddler, running away from the house and just running to other neighbors and playing with their dog, or going in their backyard, joining other people\u2019s barbecues. People would call my parents and let them know where I was, but they would run after me, calling me \u2018Britches,\u2019 because when I would go on my teetering escape, could not keep my pants up to save my life, apparently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>2. Something you loved as a kid but can\u2019t believe you were into it now:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cEating Campbell\u2019s cream of potato soup in its condensed cold form straight out of the can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>3. Go-to Karaoke or sing-in-the-shower song:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m not a karaoke person, but when I am dragged or somebody has a birthday and they really, really want me to do it, it\u2019s Wham\u2019s \u2018Careless Whisper.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>4. Give me an alternate title for your show:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cOh, dude, that\u2019s so hard. I can\u2019t believe they were even able to come up with a log line. I give them all so much credit. It\u2019s an impossible show to explain!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>5. What\u2019s your secret talent?<\/strong>: \u201cTedious, methodical following of instructions, like everything from a Lego set to like building an Ikea piece of furniture, or somebody saying we can\u2019t figure out how the VCR works, learning to caulk a bathtub. Fictional character you most admire<\/strong>: \u201cSarah Lancashire\u2019s character in \u2018Happy Valley.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>10. Your favorite piece of advice<\/strong>: \u201cI think one that I come back to all the time is, and I\u2019ve gotten it in various different phrasings from various different parts of my life, but it\u2019s \u2018Keep your side of the street clean.\u2019 If something goes poorly, you can still examine, what was my side in this, is there anything I could do differently. The things that you can\u2019t change, at least make sure your side of the street was clean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlso on this episode of the Awards Circuit Podcast: \u201cMatlock\u201d star Kathy Bates.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBates\u2019 first appearance in <em>Variety<\/em> was on March 10, 1976, for the play \u201cVanities.\u201d Says Bates: \u201cThat was the first really cool role I had to play. A friend of mine from school wrote it. We were one of the longest-running plays off-Broadway for awhile \u2014 five, six years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBut then, when the show moved to the Mark Taper in Los Angeles, established stars were cast in the play. \u201cSandy Duncan played my part, and so we got to be the \u2018B team\u2019 that went in at the <\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>10 QUESTIONS WITH KATHY BATES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>1. The one item you couldn\u2019t live without<\/strong>: \u201cIt would probably be a pillow of some kind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>8. What TV show in all of history do you wish you were a cast member of?<\/strong>: \u201cThe first one that came to mind was \u2018The Twilight Zone.\u2019 The other first one was \u2018Ponderosa.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>9. Fictional character you most admire<\/strong>: \u201cI was going to say Scout in \u2018To Kill a Mockingbird.\u2019 There was another one, my favorite, but she was a real.. she wasn\u2019t fictional. She was a real woman. She was part of the English underground during World War II, and she had one leg because she had one foot was blown off and she did all of these amazing things there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>10.
