{"id":2736,"date":"2026-06-23T04:36:21","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T04:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=2736"},"modified":"2026-06-23T04:36:21","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T04:36:21","slug":"michael-ovitz-storms-out-of-deposition-after-being-asked-about-jeffrey-epstein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=2736","title":{"rendered":"Michael Ovitz Storms Out of Deposition After Being Asked About Jeffrey Epstein"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<!-- do not apply CSS styles to this element! --><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\nMichael Ovitz, the co-founder of CAA, stormed out of a deposition on June 1 after being asked about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=2734\">Jon Stewart Dives Into Reflecting Pool Algae Infestation: \u2018Did They Replace the Water With Mountain Dew?\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tOvitz was being questioned by a lawyer for Julia Ormond, the actress who has sued CAA for allegedly setting her up to be sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein in December 1995.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOrmond\u2019s attorneys have been seeking to take Ovitz\u2019s deposition for more than a year, and ultimately got a court order directing him to comply with their subpoena. According to a deposition transcript filed in the case, Ovitz showed up to testify at his attorney\u2019s office in New York. He spoke about his relationship with Weinstein, repeatedly calling him a \u201cbully,\u201d but became irate when asked about Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not going to discuss anything about Jeffrey Epstein,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can ask all the questions you want \u2014 you\u2019re going to get no answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA few moments later, he announced, \u201cI\u2019m done with this,\u201d removed his microphone, walked out of the room, slammed the door, and left the building.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOrmond\u2019s attorneys are now seeking to have Ovitz held in contempt and that an arrest warrant be issued to ensure that he completes the deposition.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cOvitz has no plausible defense for his contemptuous conduct,\u201d wrote Ormond\u2019s attorney, Meredith Firetog, in a motion for sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOrmond sued CAA, Weinstein, Miramax and Disney under the Adult Survivors Act in New York in 2023. She alleges that CAA knew of Weinstein\u2019s sexual misconduct and failed to warn her before sending her out to a dinner meeting with him. <\/p>\n<p>\n\tShe also alleges that Weinstein took her to an apartment owned by Miramax and sexually assaulted her. Disney and Miramax reached an out-of-court settlement, but CAA has continued to fight, denying that its agents did anything wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOvitz had left the agency a few months before the alleged assault, but Ormond\u2019s attorneys wanted to question him about his knowledge of Weinstein, the operations of CAA, and the culture of harassment in the industry, which Ovitz had referenced in his memoir.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=2732\">Tom Hanks Says Disney Could Use AI to Recreate Woody\u2019s Voice for \u2018Toy Story 6\u2019 and Beyond If He Doesn\u2019t Return: \u2018It\u2019s a Scary Thought\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn the deposition, he said he did not get along with Weinstein.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t like his methodology of business,\u201d he said. \u201cHe was a bully and \u2014 and he and I got into it multiple times. I talked to him as little as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBut he said that he was unaware of sexual misconduct allegations against Weinstein until they became public in 2017. <\/p>\n<p>\n\tHe was later asked what he would have done if he found out that Weinstein had sexually assaulted someone, and answered that \u201cWe surely wouldn\u2019t have done business with the person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOrmond\u2019s attorney, Kevin Mintzer, then asked if he was friendly with Epstein. <\/p>\n<p>\n\tAfter initially saying \u201cno,\u201d Ovitz asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s your definition of \u2018friendly\u2019?\u201d He acknowledged that he had once gone to Epstein\u2019s house \u201cfor 20 minutes at the recommendation of the JP Morgan Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOvitz was then asked if he had ever visited with him at St. Barts.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cWhat does this got to do with Harvey Weinstein?\u201d Ovitz asked.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMintzer attempted to follow up by asking if Ovitz was aware that Epstein had been convicted of sex crimes, at which point Ovitz walked out, about 45 minutes into a three-hour deposition.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEmails between Epstein and Ovitz were included in the massive trove of Epstein material released by the Justice Department earlier this year. In one email from 2012, Ovitz wrote, \u201cI would love to see you.\u201d In another, Ovitz told Epstein that he was looking forward to seeing him at St. Barts.
