Jones explained that she didn\u2019t fight back because \u201cshe wanted to be on the show,\u201d and in the moment, \u201cdidn\u2019t think that that was happening until it kept happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cEvery time I would get a sketch, I was like, \u2018OK, who am I beating up this week?\u2019\u201d she added. \u201cI just started getting frustrated with [the writers]. When you leave here, you\u2019ll be able to make [a career],\u2019\u201d Jones recalled. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be Chevy Chase. I don\u2019t want to be whoever. I want to be Leslie. I want to do everything. And I wanted to go across the board with everything, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhen asked if she thought \u201cSNL\u201d was a \u201chealthy place to be a black comic,\u201d Jones replied, \u201cI think that it is the machine that it is. That\u2019s just all I can tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tJones joined \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d during the 39th season, becoming the oldest new recruit in the show\u2019s history at age 47.
