\n\tThe Whitney Houston estate is refuting Oprah Winfrey recalling that the late singer was high and fell off the stage during an appearance on her talk show.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFrom the 2009 interview on the Oprah Winfrey show, Whitney absolutely fell off stage, but it was during a sound check and it was due to the darkness of the area and her unfamiliarity with the stage,\u201d reads a statement posted on the official Houston Instagram page. \u201cShe was absolutely not high.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a conversation at Cannes Lion, Winfrey claimed that Houston was relapsing when arrived to perform on what would be her last appearance on the show. \u201cShe fell off of the stage,\u201d Winfrey said.<\/p>\n

\n\tWinfrey asked camera-wielding audience members not to release any photos they may have captured of the incident. \u201cI knew that if that story got out \u2026 she would be destroyed by that,\u201d Winfrey said. \u201cAnd so even though the audience was there and the audience had cameras, I begged them not to put those pictures out because it would ruin her life, and they did not.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Houston estate acknowledged that the Grammy winner \u201cfaced personal battles, but it is inaccurate and unfair to attach that struggle to every performance or every chapter of her life.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat the studio audience witnessed on stage was the result of discipline, talent, and commitment not the assumptions others project,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cWhitney\u2019s humanity included triumphs and struggles, but on that day, she showed up as the professional and gifted artist she always worked to be. We owe her the dignity of telling the truth not repeating myths.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWinfrey has not commented on the estate\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n

\n\tHer conversation took place after being presented with Cannes Lion\u2019s LionHeart Award at the Lumi\u00e8re Theatre.<\/p>\n
