The project hails from writer Sarah Watson, with the film\u2019s director, Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, attached to direct and executive produce. Susan Cartsonis, who produced the film, will also executive produce. John Quintance and Jessica Bendinger wrote the original film, which was based on a novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman. Quintance, Bendinger, and Hoffman are not involved in the pilot.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe logline for the pilot states, \u201cWhen teenaged Coral moves to a dreamy seaside town, she begins unraveling the truth behind her mother\u2019s disappearance\u2014and discovers her mother was a mermaid, awakening magical powers in Coral just as secrets beneath the waves threaten to surface.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlong with Roberts, \u201cAquamarine\u201d starred Joanna \u201cJoJo\u201d Levesque, Sara Paxton, Jake McDorman, and Arielle Kebbel. In the film, best friends Claire (Roberts) and Hailey (Levesque) try to help mermaid Aquamarine (Paxton) find true love. She most recently wrote multiple episodes of the Disney+ series \u201cPercy Jackson and the Olympians\u201d and created the CBS medical drama \u201cPure Genius.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn addition to directing \u201cAquamarine,\u201d Rosenbaum has directed episodes of shows like \u201cGossip Girl,\u201d \u201cThe Vampire Diaries,\u201d \u201cAll American,\u201d \u201cEmpire,\u201d \u201cGinny &amp; Georgia,\u201d and \u201cDead to Me.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\n\tWatson is repped by Verve and Range Media Partners. Rosenbaum is repped by WME and McKuin Frankel Whitehead. Roberts is repped by UTA, Sweeney Entertainment, Felker Toczek, and Shelter PR.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis is the latest example of Disney attempting to reboot one of their film properties as a TV series.
