Winners of the festival\u2019s 34th edition were announced this Friday ahead of the closing night screening of \u201cEddie Cochran: Don\u2019t Forget Me,\u201d which won a Best U.K. Director for filmmaker Kirsty Bell.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=3049\">Studio TF1 Makes Major Animation Play With \u2018Yes Chef,\u2019 $25 Million Family Feature About an Animal Pastry Competition (EXCLUSIVE)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tAdapted from Shakespeare\u2019s classic, \u201cMacbeth\u201d spins the famed story of the titular king in a film \u201cbrought to life via a social enterprise production, tackling barriers to filmmaking,\u201d while World War II drama \u201cSilent Rebellion\u201d \u201cfollows a virtuous teen in 1943 Switzerland who questions her village\u2019s morality when they turn away French refugees.\u201d Camosy\u2019s \u201cGaslit\u201d trails icon Jane Fonda as she travels across the oil fields of West Texas\u2019 Permian Basin and through the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, visiting the communities impacted by oil and gas production. Horror winner \u201cSerena\u201d tackles AI anxiety through the story of a down-on-his-luck musician tasked with testing an increasingly dangerous chatbot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAnooya Swamy\u2019s \u201cPankaja,\u201d Liane Aviram and Louis Hollis\u2019 \u201cThe Oath\u201d and Jocelyn Charles\u2019s \u201cGod is Shy\u201d are now all eligible for Academy Award consideration after winning the respective Oscar-qualifying awards at Raindance: Best Live Action Short, Best Documentary Short and Best Animation Short. Still on the short film front, R\u00f3is\u00edn Burns\u2019s \u201cWonderwall\u201d was awarded Best UK Short. The festival is also BIFA-qualifying for British features.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe 34th edition of Raindance opened on June 17 with the U.K. premiere of Michel K. Parandi\u2019s sci-fi thriller \u201cApril X,\u201d starring \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d breakout Connor Storrie. On top of the competitive awards, the festival also presented a series of Icon Awards to renowned actors Brian Cox and Myriam Margolyes, American film director and co-founder of Troma Entertainment film studio Lloyd Kaufman and a posthumous award to American rock legend Eddie Cochran. Presented to Eddie\u2019s sister and niece, the Icon Award is set to be displayed alongside his original Gretsch guitar and his other trophies at the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Cochran is the subject of the festival\u2019s closing film, Kirsty Bell\u2019s \u201cEddie Cochran: Don\u2019t Forget Me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis year\u2019s jury included actors Adriana Paz (\u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d), Charlotte Hope (\u201cThe Nun\u201d), Jacob Anderson (\u201cGame of Thrones\u201d), Sope Dirisu (\u201cMy Father\u2019s Shadow\u201d), Eva Birthistle (\u201cBad Sisters\u201d) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (\u201cThe Tudors\u201d) as well as filmmakers Lee Knight (\u201cA Friend of Dorothy\u201d), Chris Overton (\u201cThe Silent Child\u201d) and Jamie Donoughue (\u201cShok\u201d). Other jury members include BAFTA-winning producer Fiona Lamptey, Jinga Films founder Julian Richards, Tigerlily Productions co-founder Natasha Dack Ojumu, and head of development at Marauder Pictures, Maxine Gordon.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRaindance presented 85 narrative and documentary features in its 2026 edition, as well as 112 short films and 27 immersive projects.
