\nJames Norton is set to play the title role in a new London West End production of \u201cHamlet,\u201d directed and conceived by Thomas Ostermeier. <\/p>\n

\n\tProducers Wessex Grove and Gavin Kalin Productions are bringing the show to the West End in fall 2027. A theater and specific dates are yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe staging will be Ostermeier\u2019s debut directing Shakespeare in English. The Schaub\u00fchne Berlin artistic director\u2019s previous production of \u201cHamlet\u201d has been touring internationally for 18 years.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018It\u2019s a privilege for anyone to take on the role of Hamlet. It\u2019s also pretty terrifying. But with Thomas Ostermeier at the helm, I know I could not be in better hands. Both this role and this director have intrigued me and challenged me over the years, and so I cannot wait to start this journey with Thomas and see where it takes us,’\u201d Norton said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018I am pleased to be revisiting \u2018Hamlet\u2019 for the West End with the great stage actor, James Norton. It will be my first time directing Shakespeare in English, and I am excited to explore the original text in order to bring this new production to life. My first \u2018Hamlet\u2019 has been touring the world for 18 years so I am honored to have the opportunity to bring it here to London with James, who in my mind is a perfect Prince of Denmark,’\u201d Ostermeier added.<\/p>\n

\n\tNorton most recently appeared on stage in Ivo Van Hove\u2019s adaptation of Hanya Yanagihara\u2019s \u201cA Little Life\u201d in the West End. On screen, he is currently seen as Ormund Hightower in the third season of HBO\u2019s \u201cHouse of the Dragon,\u201d and will next appear as Brian Epstein, the Beatles\u2019 manager, in Sam Mendes\u2019 four-film event \u201cThe Beatles,\u201d alongside Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn. He also has Guy Ritchie\u2019s \u201cWife & Dog\u201d and George Jacques\u2019 \u201cSunny Dancer\u201d in the pipeline.<\/p>\n

\n\tOstermeier\u2019s recent London credits include \u201cThe Seagull\u201d at the Barbican starring Cate Blanchett and Tom Burke, and \u201cAn Enemy of the People\u201d with Matt Smith in the West End. Since 1999 he has served as artistic director of the Schaub\u00fchne Berlin and was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2011.<\/p>\n

\n\tWessex Grove \u2013 whose recent productions include \u201cA Little Life,\u201d \u201cAn Enemy of the People\u201d and \u201cThe Seagull\u201d \u2013 won The Stage Award for Best Producer in 2026. Gavin Kalin Productions\u2019 recent West End credits include \u201cAll My Sons,\u201d \u201cVanya\u201d and \u201cCabaret.\u201d<\/p>\n
