\n\tA video game based on author Frank Beddor\u2018s best-selling \u201cThe Looking Glass Wars\u201d novels is set to launch this summer as the first push in a plan to further expand the franchise across mediums.<\/p>\n

\n\tTitled \u201cThe Looking Glass Wars: House of Cards,\u201d the deck-building game is releasing tied to the 20th anniversary of Beddor\u2019s trilogy, which reimagines Lewis Carroll\u2019s \u201cAlice in Wonderland\u201d as the suppressed history of Princess Alyss Heart of Wonderland.<\/p>\n

\n\tPer the description for the new game, \u201cDeparting from traditional \u2018Alice in Wonderland\u2019 whimsy, \u2018The Looking Glass Wars: House of Cards\u2019 invites players back into Beddor\u2019s war-torn vision of the realm. This single-player, strategic deck builder blends the DNA of tabletop classics like Rummikub and Mahjong with modern tactical depth. Players must navigate a darker, high-stakes world where iconic characters are re-imagined as elite operatives and every suit is fighting for the soul of Wonderland.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Beddor preps to release the new video game amid the novel trilogy\u2019s 20th anniversary, he\u2019s also plotting a new \u201cLooking Glass Wars\u201d comic book and launching a Kickstarter campaign for \u201cThe Looking Glass Wars: Visions of Wonderland,\u201d \u201ca museum-quality artbook\u201d to debut tied to the game. <\/p>\n

\n\tAnd there\u2019s more in the works.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m also working on the musical and the television show, both of which I\u2019m doing out of the U.K,\u201d Beddor told Variety<\/em>. \u201cThe hope is to do the musical on the West End, and the television show out of London, as well. There\u2019s some exciting things happening on that front and there\u2019ll be new announcements. But I have a terrific team on the musical. And one of my inspirations was \u2018Wicked,\u2019 because Gregory Maguire, years ago, I called him for some advice, and he said, \u2018Oh, you should come up to San Francisco. They\u2019re turning my book into a musical.\u2019 So I went up and I saw the first presentation of it. And then he called me afterwards, and he says, \u2018You should start thinking about the musical. You\u2019ll make more money on the musical.\u2019 So it\u2019s just taken me 20 years to get around doing all these other things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cLooking Glass Wars\u201d game will offer quest-based progression system, where players take on a ladder of more than 140 escalating challenges and progress isn\u2019t scrapped upon defeat. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Looking Glass Wars: House of Cards\u201d will launch on Steam this summer with exact release date still to come. A playable demo will be released during the Steam Next Fest in June.<\/p>\n
