The series is also executive produced by XTR\u2019s Justin Lacob, Matt Cherchio, and Bryn Mooser.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe film tells the untold story of the iconic \u201890s \u201cGot Milk?\u201d campaign and its impact on farmers, consumers, and public policy. Using interviews and archival footage, it moves from farms to the White House, diving into America\u2019s love\/hate relationship with milk, as well as the dairy industry\u2019s grip on pop culture, politics, and food.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe series opens by examining how \u201cGot Milk?\u201d became a pop-culture phenomenon in the 1990s, deploying everyone from Frankie Muniz to Britney Spears,\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9, and SpongeBob Square Pants to generate attention for all things dairy. However, the campaign became a boondoggle that never reversed declining milk consumption. Following the money, the series uncovers a dairy industry working with the U.S. government to fight the tides of America\u2019s changing tastes.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI grew up mesmerized by these 1990s ads \u2013 but behind them is a David vs. Goliath story and a battle for America\u2019s refrigerators. I hope audiences discover there\u2019s so much more to what\u2019s on our plate, and what\u2019s on our screens.\u201d said Bruckman.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cA glass of milk is easy to take for granted, so I\u2019m eager for audiences to meet the people for whom milk is really personal. The filmmakers retained full creative control and reported the story journalistically; the brand is not mentioned in the series except as a disclosing title card.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHere\u2019s a look at the four episodes:<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Episode 1 \u2014 Got Milked?: <\/strong>The \u201cGot Milk?\u201d campaign made milk mustaches ubiquitous in the 1990s. But who paid for it? A government-mandated milk slush fund. Husband-and-wife dairy farmers take on the admen and corporate interests behind the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Episode 2 \u2014 Dairy Never Dies: <\/strong>America\u2019s unlikeliest tourist destination is a dairy-farm theme park in Indiana, with live calf births on stage and tens of thousands of cows behind the scenes. Journalists and activists uncover a dark story behind the curtain of the so-called \u201cDairy Disneyland\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Episode 3 \u2014 Government Cheese: <\/strong>The origin story of the stuffed-crust pizza and the Taco Bell quesalupa begins in a government program inducing Americans to eat more dairy. As money flows to corporations, small dairy farms shut down, and a Wisconsin dairy-farmer-turned-whistleblower takes on \u201cbig milk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Episode 4 \u2014 The Kids Are Not Alright: <\/strong>Milk needs new mouths to survive. Students push back against mandatory milk cartons in the lunchroom, and climate activists call out cow manure\u2019s greenwashing.
