\nGkids has picked up U.K. and Ireland distribution rights to Studio Ghibli\u2018s 23-title film library, adding theatrical, home video, TV and digital rights across the territory to its slate.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe rollout begins with an Imax release of \u201cKiki\u2019s Delivery Service\u201d in the U.K. and Ireland on August 21. The Ghibli catalog includes the Oscar-winning \u201cSpirited Away\u201d and \u201cThe Boy and the Heron,\u201d Oscar-nominated titles \u201cHowl\u2019s Moving Castle,\u201d \u201cThe Tale of The Princess Kaguya,\u201d \u201cThe Wind Rises\u201d and \u201cWhen Marnie Was There,\u201d along with \u201cPrincess Mononoke,\u201d \u201cMy Neighbor Totoro,\u201d \u201cPonyo\u201d and \u201cCastle in the Sky,\u201d among others. Most of the films have had limited availability in the territory for several years.<\/p>\n

\n\tAdditional Imax releases are already lined up, including \u201cThe Secret World of Arrietty\u201d (released in the U.K. as \u201cArrietty\u201d) and \u201cWhisper of the Heart.\u201d Gkids also plans further Imax releases of new 4K Ghibli remasters starting in fall 2026, alongside a re-release of the full library across home video platforms.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the U.K. and Ireland, Gkids will partner with Anime Limited, the Glasgow-based distributor recently acquired by Gkids parent company Toho Global. The two companies have collaborated on releases including \u201cArcane,\u201d \u201cPerfect Blue\u201d and \u201cNeon Genesis Evangelion,\u201d and will jointly handle the upcoming release of Toho\u2019s \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe agreement was negotiated by Eric Beckman at Gkids and Vincent Maraval at Goodfellas, which serves as Studio Ghibli\u2019s worldwide sales agent outside a number of territories including the U.S., Canada and Japan. Gkids has long handled Ghibli distribution in North America across theatrical, home video, digital and streaming. Goodfellas retains streaming rights for the U.K. and Ireland, where they are licensed to Netflix.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGkids is delighted to extend our relationship with Studio Ghibli into the U.K. and Ireland, and to have this opportunity to reintroduce these incomparable films to audiences old and new,\u201d said David Jesteadt, president of Gkids.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are very happy to be working together with Gkids to bring the renowned Studio Ghibli library to U.K. and Irish audiences,\u201d added Vincent Maraval, president of Goodfellas.<\/p>\n

\n\tStudio Ghibli was founded by directors Miyazaki Hayao and Takahata Isao alongside producer Suzuki Toshio, and has won two Academy Awards for best animated feature, for \u201cSpirited Away\u201d and \u201cThe Boy and the Heron.\u201d The studio, along with the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka and Ghibli Park, received an Honorary Palme d\u2019Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Imax rollout arrives as \u201cKiki\u2019s Delivery Service\u201d expands beyond film: BBC Studios Kids & Family, U.K. company Wheel in Motion and Kadokawa Corporation are developing a live-action television series based on Eiko Kadono\u2019s source novels, marking the property\u2019s first live-action small-screen adaptation.<\/p>\n
