Speaking with <em>Variety <\/em>at the festival, the actor said he is working on something that \u201creally excites me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=3595\">Box Office: \u2018Obsession\u2019 Surpasses $400 Million Globally<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cMy wife wrote a script; she\u2019s a writer, director, actress\u2026 We\u2019re working on it,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s sort of guerrilla warfare. It\u2019s not a Hollywood film, but it\u2019s being done in Hollywood because we live there. We have a lot of college students on the crew, and we\u2019ll see where we go.\u201d The actor did not go into further details regarding the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tKeitel, who was co-president of the Actors Studio from 1995 to 2017 and has been a great champion of acting as an art form throughout his career, expressed concerns over the rise of artificial intelligence. \u201cDanger is in front of us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tKeitel mentioned he recently read an article about an audiobook of Homer\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d narrated by an AI-generated replica of Michael Caine\u2019s voice. Caine recently licensed his voice to AI audio technology company ElevenLabs, becoming part of the company\u2019s Iconic Voice Marketplace. The British actor\u2019s approved digital clone is now available for a vast array of projects, the first one being an audiobook of Homer\u2019s classic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCalling Caine \u201cone of the greatest artists in the world,\u201d Keitel said he read ElevenLabs ran into a \u201cproblem\u201d with the upcoming audiobook. \u201cThey used his voice, but there was no emotion in it. They couldn\u2019t reproduce Michael Caine\u2019s beauty.\u201d \u201c[It\u2019s] this new industry that\u2019s developing where actors are selling their image and their voices, but they can\u2019t reproduce their emotional life. In that way, the AI thing failed. I know it could be used for good purposes also, but we\u2019re going to have to find good people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe veteran actor, who has starred in major films such as Jane Campion\u2019s \u201cThe Piano\u201d and Ridley Scott\u2019s \u201cThelma &amp; Louise,\u201d as well as several projects with frequent collaborators Martin Scorsese (\u201cMean Streets,\u201d \u201cTaxi Driver,\u201d \u201cThe Irishman\u201d), Wes Anderson (\u201cThe Budapest Hotel,\u201d \u201cMoonrise Kingdom,\u201d \u201cIsle of Dogs\u201d) and Quentin Tarantino (\u201cReservoir Dogs,\u201d \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d), is still very much active and thrilled to be working. That\u2019s one good way to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOne thing Keitel is still keen to do is continue to attend film festivals, with Karlovy Vary being one of his very favorites. At the festival\u2019s 39th edition in 2004, Keitel was awarded a Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. Eleven years later, he returned to Karlovy Vary in order to introduce Paolo Sorrentino\u2019s \u201cYouth,\u201d which won the Pr\u00e1vo Audience Award. \u201cFestivals are more important today than ever before in my lifetime because of the social situation around the world now,\u201d he said. \u201cPolitics is a disaster. Religions are in conflict with each other. I mean\u2026 Judging somebody by the religion or the color of their skin, I can\u2019t think of anything more fucking ridiculous, and yet, we are still doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThere are plenty of new talents who are out of work,\u201d he continued in his assessment of the film industry and the world today. \u201cLet\u2019s face it, the arts are a very different field to get involved in, and that\u2019s when we need it the most. Politics is not doing it for us. Religion, and I hope [you] understand what I mean, is not doing it for us. Religions are in conflict. Everybody\u2019s killing each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHe finished his musing on the dire state of geopolitics by quoting his \u201chero,\u201d Greek philosopher Aristotle. \u201cIt takes more than words to change a culture. To change a person, it takes aesthetic force.
