\nPeter Van Norden, a frequent character actor in films including \u201cPolice Academy 2,\u201d and TV projects including \u201cThe Stand,\u201d died Thursday in California, his son Robert confirmed on Instagram. He was 75. <\/p>\n

\n\tBorn in New York, Van Norden graduated Colgate University and started out onstage in plays including \u201cMeasure for Measure,\u201d \u201cA Country Scandal\u201d and \u201cRomeo and Juliet.\u201d His first screen role came in 1979\u2019s \u201cSqueeze Play\u201d and he went on to appear in films including \u201cWaitress!,\u201d \u201cThe Accused\u201d and \u201cGigli.\u201d In \u201cThe Accused,\u201d he played Attorney Paulsen in the intense drama about a rape trial that starred Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn \u201cPolice Academy 2: Their First Assignment,\u201d he played the slobby police dog officer Vinnie Schtulman, one of the gang at the 16th precinct, who was partnered with Steve Guttenberg\u2019s Officer Mahoney. <\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the 1980s, Van Norden had frequent guest roles on popular TV series and TV movies including \u201cCheers,\u201d \u201cSt. Elsehwere,\u201d \u201cT.J. Hooker,\u201d \u201cMalibu,\u201d \u201cSilver Spoons,\u201d \u201cFamily Ties\u201d and \u201cMurder, She Wrote.\u201d In 1994\u2019s Stephen King mini-series \u201cThe Stand,\u201dhe played Ralph Brentner, a farmer who travels West with a group to escape the mayhem caused by a weaponized virus. Van Norden played Henry Kissinger in 1990s series \u201cDark Skies,\u201d and appeared in two episodes of \u201cTales From the Crypt\u201d as well as on episodes of \u201cNash Bridges\u201d and \u201cFamily Matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVan Norden later appeared in series including \u201c9-1-1,\u201d \u201cWithout a Trace,\u201d \u201cDays of Our Lives,\u201d \u201cER\u201d and \u201cThe Invisible Man.\u201d He continued to work onstage in several different theater companies.<\/p>\n
