\n\tIcelandic producer Glassriver is teaming with ZDF Studios-owned Network Movie on \u201c\u00c1r\u00f3ra,\u201d a crime drama series based on Lilja Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir\u2019s internationally bestselling \u201cAn \u00c1r\u00f3ra Investigation\u201d novels.<\/p>\n

\n\tNetwork Movie has optioned all five books in the series \u2014 \u201cCold as Hell,\u201d \u201cRed as Blood,\u201d \u201cWhite as Snow,\u201d \u201cDark as Night\u201d and \u201cDeep as Death\u201d \u2014 and is developing the adaptation with Glassriver.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe partnership brings together one of Iceland\u2019s most active scripted producers and a German company with extensive experience in crime drama, literary adaptations and international co-productions.<\/p>\n

\n\tNetwork Movie\u2019s credits include the long-running procedural franchises \u201cMurder Up North,\u201d \u201cIn Other Circumstances,\u201d \u201cHelen Dorn\u201d and \u201cThe Trace,\u201d as well as the pan-European crime series \u201cThe Team\u201d and the feature adaptation \u201cThe German Lesson.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSet across Iceland and London, the series follows \u00c1r\u00f3ra, a tough fraud investigator with Icelandic roots who returns home to search for her missing sister. What begins as a family mission soon expands into a wider criminal investigation as she teams with Daniel, an Icelandic police detective and potential love interest, exposing corruption, betrayal and violence beneath Iceland\u2019s rugged landscape.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be partnering with Network Movie to bring \u2018\u00c1r\u00f3ra\u2019 from the page to screen,\u201d said Glassriver CEO Andri \u00d3marsson. \u201cThis series is truly an international project, with a story that unfolds across Iceland and the U.K. while bringing together the best talent from across Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00d3marsson said Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir\u2019s ability to combine \u201ccompelling characters, suspense and a strong sense of place\u201d gives \u201c\u00c1r\u00f3ra\u201d \u201cunique international appeal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNetwork Movie managing director Bernd von Fehrn and executive producer Moritz Mihm described the character of \u00c1r\u00f3ra as an \u201cirresistible heroine\u201d and praised the novels for \u201cinterweaving intricate criminal cases with the complex private lines of the protagonist and her family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe novels are ripe material for adaptation,\u201d they added. \u201cWe are delighted to have found the ideal partner for this very special project in the Glassriver team.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir is also working with Glassriver on an adaptation of her \u201cReykjavik Noir\u201d trilogy and previously co-wrote episodes of Netflix\u2019s Icelandic supernatural drama \u201cKatla.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the producers, the \u201cAn \u00c1r\u00f3ra Investigation\u201d novels have sold more than 800,000 copies and have secured publishing deals across English-, French-, German- and Arabic-language markets as well as Sweden, Finland and Estonia.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u00c1r\u00f3ra\u201d joins Glassriver\u2019s expanding slate of literary crime adaptations, which also includes \u201cElma,\u201d based on Eva Bj\u00f6rg \u00c6gisd\u00f3ttir\u2019s novels, and \u201cKonrad,\u201d drawn from Arnaldur Indri\u00f0ason\u2019s detective series. Its development lineup also features \u201cManifesto\u201d and \u201cReykjavik Noir.\u201d<\/p>\n
