\nMargot Robbie, Mark Ruffalo, Daisy Ridley and Omar Sy are among some of the high-profile acting talent attached to projects selected for Venice Immersive, the XR \u2013 Extended Reality section of the 83rd Venice Intl. Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther leading names associated with the projects include actresses Kathleen Turner and Isabelle Huppert, actor-director Andy Serkis and composer A. R. Rahman.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe section, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is \u201cfocused on the next wave of immersive art and storytelling,\u201d according to the festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong the highlights are \u201cNevatars,\u201d directed by Serkis, and voiced by Ridley and Turner, and \u201cGalapagos: The Last Eden,\u201d directed by Anthony Geffen, and voiced by Robbie.<\/p>\n

\n\tThese two projects are \u201cexperienced on never previously seen next generation smart glass devices,\u201d which \u201cmark a significant evolution in the possibilities of immersive storytelling,\u201d the festival said.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther projects include \u201cArtou,\u201d directed by renowned Mauritanian director Abderrahmane Sissako, and voiced by Sy, who is also one of the producers; \u201cSolwata,\u201d a documentary about climate refugees, voiced by Ruffalo; \u201cOutrenoir,\u201d a tribute to French artist Pierre Soulages, voiced by Huppert; \u201cAnokhya: The Origin,\u201d produced by Rahman, and starring Indian actor Milind Soman; and \u201cBowie: Unseen Unheard,\u201d an immersive audiovisual work created from rare and never seen photos of David Bowie shot by his official photographer Denis O\u2019Regan on the 10th anniversary of his death, featuring cutting-edge spatial sound technology.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong the stars of the VR scene with new work in Venice are Celine Daemen and Nonny de la Pe\u00f1a. \u201cNothing to See Here\u201d is directed by Daemen, 2023 Venice Immersive Grand Prize winner. \u201cOut of the Ashes,\u201d which is about the Los Angeles fires, is by De la Pe\u00f1a and Rory Mitchell.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong the projects that deal with pressing social issues are \u201cRaj\u2019in\u201d (We Shall Return), an immersive documentary capturing the ongoing situation of Palestinians in the West Bank; \u201cSpomyny,\u201d by Sophia Bulgakova, an immersive installation woven from intimate testimonies, conversations and found-footage chronicling civilian life during the four-year full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine; and \u201c36,000 Ways,\u201d by artist and former war photojournalist Karim Ben Khelifa, a visceral immersive installation constructed from shrapnel collected from the frontline in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
