\nMatt Reeves\u2018 \u201cThe Batman Part II\u201d is being delayed once again and will now open on in theaters on February 18, 2028. That release date is nearly six years after the March 2022 opening of \u201cThe Batman.\u201d Reeves announced the new opening date on Vimeo accompanied by the first camera test footage of Robert Pattinson\u2018s return as the Dark Knight.<\/p>\n

\n\tJoining Pattinson in the long-delayed sequel are Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, plus \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d actor Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Reeves co-wrote the sequel\u2019s screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Plot details remain under wraps, as do the roles being played by the film\u2019s supporting cast.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Batman Part II\u201d was originally supposed to open Oct. 2, 2026 before Warner Bros. delayed it to \u00a0Oct. 1, 2027. Moving the film to 2028 will give Reeves additional time in post-production. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn defended the first release delay by explaining how it\u2019s \u201cfairly common\u201d for big-budget titles to have lengthy gaps before a sequel is released.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,\u201d Gunn wrote on Threads at the time. \u201c7 years between \u2018Alien\u2019 and \u2018Aliens.\u2019 14 years between \u2018Incredibles.\u2019 7 years between the first two \u2018Terminators.\u2019 13 years between \u2018Avatars.\u2019 36 years between \u2018Top Guns.\u2019 And, of course, 6 years between \u2018Guardians Vol 2\u2019 and \u2018Vol 3.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWarner Bros. has shifted other release dates as well. J.J. Abrams\u2019 mysterious new movie \u201cThe Great Beyond,\u201d starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, is being delayed from Nov. 13, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027, the release date previously held by \u201cThe Batman Part II.\u201d Sam Esmail\u2019s new movie \u201cPanic Carefully,\u201d starring Julia Roberts, is opening April 9, 2027 (delayed slightly from Feb. 26, 2027). \u201cRevenge of La Llorona\u201d will fill in for the Feb. 26 date.<\/p>\n

\n\tNot much is known about Abrams\u2019 new film, although Warner Bros. describes it as \u201ca four-quadrant, all-audience spectacle.\u201d Abrams will be composing the movie\u2019s original score. The movie will be getting an IMAX 70mm rollout, which is made possible by the release delay as now there\u2019s more time to generate prints.<\/p>\n
