\n\tComposer Ludwig G\u00f6ransson\u00a0has reunited with Christopher Nolan to score \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d marking their third collaboration after \u201cTenet\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, G\u00f6ransson\u2019s work on \u201cStar Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d showcased his use of heavy synths and guitar-based orchestrations. However, for \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d G\u00f6ransson ventures into new territory.<\/p>\n

\n\tNolan instructed G\u00f6ransson not to use an orchestra in the score. G\u00f6ransson previously told\u00a0Time Magazine, \u201cIt\u2019s not like the orchestra existed back then.\u2026 It was a challenge and also an opening to try to make something unique.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nIn a featurette accompanying the film, Nolan explained, \u201cWe wanted the film to feel like a recognizable world to people, even though it was going to be ancient Greece. We don\u2019t want it to look and feel like previous movies that take on this kind of classical world. What can we do that\u2019s more timeless than that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tG\u00f6ransson was forced to step outside his comfort zone and work with sounds he had never worked with before.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the film set in the Bronze age, Nolan suggested G\u00f6ransson use bronze as a thematic element. G\u00f6ransson rented 35 bronze gongs of varying sizes, experimented with them. \u201cHitting walls, hitting railings, hitting any things you could find outside, like scrap metal or air conditioning units,\u201d he says. He also used a lyre and an aulos. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe score also features vocals which G\u00f6ransson says, \u201cAdds some of the more emotional pacing of the score.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe original song, \u201cWhen I\u2019m Home,\u201d written by James Blake, Travis Scott, G\u00f6ransson and Nolan is also on the film\u2019s soundtrack.<\/p>\n

\n\tNolan\u2019s film brings Homer\u2019s classic tale to life. Damon stars as the titular seafaring hero. The film also stars Anne Hathaway as Odysseus\u2019 wife, Penelope; Tom Holland as their son, Telemachus; Pattinson as the Ithacan suitor, Antinous; Zendaya as goddess of wisdom, Athena; and Charlize Theron as goddess of witchcraft, Circe. The enormous cast also includes Lupita Nyong\u2019o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Jimmy Gonzales and Elliot Page.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Odyssey\u201d is Nolan\u2019s 13th directorial feature film. He wrote the screenplay based on the ancient poem and produced it alongside Emma Thomas under their production company Syncopy. Universal Pictures is distributing the film.\u00a0<\/p>\n
