\n\tEmmy winner and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo and \u201cSlave Play\u201d director Robert O\u2019Hara are in talks to write a live-action film about Princess Tiana from Disney\u2019s \u201cThe Princess and the Frog.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project, which is in very early stages at the studio, is an original idea inspired by the animated classic, 2009\u2019s \u201cThe Princess and the Frog,\u201d which featured Anika Noni Rose as the voice of Tiana. The musical fairy tale set in 1920\u2019s New Orleans centers on Tiana, a waitress with dreams to become a restaurant owner, who is set on a journey to turn a frog prince back into a human, only to face the same problem after she kisses him. \u201cThe Princess and the Frog\u201d grossed $267 million at the global box office and was nominated for three Academy Awards \u2014 best animated feature and two of Randy Newman\u2019s songs, \u201cAlmost There\u201d and \u201cDown in New Orleans.\u201d While plans for a spin-off series stalled, Disney commemorated Princess Tiana\u2019s popularity by retheming the Splash Mountain theme park attraction as \u201cTiana\u2019s Bayou Adventure\u201d at Disney World and Disneyland.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cPrincess and the Frog\u201d project comes as Domingo celebrates a major 2026 with films \u201cMichael\u201d (which just crossed $1 billion to become the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time) and \u201cDisclosure Day,\u201d and the TV shows \u201cThe Four Seasons\u201d and \u201cEuphoria,\u201d for which he earned two more Emmy nods.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile accepting Variety\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0Creative Conscience Award last month, Domingo shared that he\u2019s noticed a shift in how Hollywood perceives him in recent years. \u201cI\u2019m being seen now in a way that I\u2019ve always wanted to be seen, which was a multi-hyphenate,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve never wanted to just be an actor. I\u2019ve always wanted to act, write, direct and produce.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tLater this year, Domingo will start work on the Nat \u201cKing\u201d Cole biopic \u201cUnforgettable\u201d \u2014 where he\u2019ll multitask as director, producer and star. He is repped by WME, Liebman Entertainment, and Shreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Hara, a noted playwright and theater director, and Domingo previously collaborated on Domingo\u2019s \u201cWild With Happy,\u201d which was presented by The Public Theater in 2012. In 2020, O\u2019Hara was nominated for the Tony Award for best direction of a play for \u201cSlave Play.\u201d He is repped by CAA and Weintraub Tobin Chediak Coleman Grodin.<\/p>\n
