\nMike Preston, known for playing settler leader Pappagallo in \u201cMad Max 2: The Road Warrior\u201d and Detective Bob Delaney in the Australian series \u201cHomicide,\u201d died June 8 in Florida. He was 93.<\/p>\n

\n\tPreston\u2019s death was confirmed to Variety<\/em> by his wife, Josie Preston.<\/p>\n

\n\tPreston, who was born Jack Davis, was an early U.K. chart-topping singer in the late \u201950s with three Top 40 hits. He then relocated to Australia and began working as a nightclub singer and performer.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe found success hosting \u201cIn Melbourne Tonight,\u201d before going on to appear in 42 episodes of the Australian series \u201cHomicide.\u201d He had a recurring role in the soap opera \u201cBellbird\u201d and also appeared in \u201cDixon of Dock Green,\u201d \u201cTandarra,\u201d \u201cChopper Squad\u201d and \u201cCop Shop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis first feature film role was in 1969\u2019s \u201cStoney,\u201d which also featured Barbara Bouchet and Richard Jaeckel. He worked with George Miller on the beloved \u201cMad Max\u201d sequel \u201cThe Road Warrior,\u201d led the sci-fi flick \u201cMetalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn\u201d as the titular character, and appeared in eight episodes of \u201cHot Pursuit\u201d as Alec Shaw, alongside actors like Kerrie Keane, Eric Pierpoint and Dina Merrill.<\/p>\n

\n\tThroughout the \u201980s and \u201990s, Preston appeared in guest spots on over a dozen shows, including \u201cEllen,\u201d \u201cScarecrow and Mrs. King,\u201d \u201cShadow Chasers,\u201d \u201cOutlaws,\u201d \u201cSuperbly,\u201d \u201cAlien Nation,\u201d \u201cDark Justice,\u201d \u201cHighlander,\u201d \u201cSteel\u201d and \u201cLaw & Order.\u201d His last credit was a voice role in the video game \u201cThe Getaway,\u201d released in 2002.<\/p>\n
