Weeks later, she suddenly reappears on the day of her own memorial service. Margot remembers nothing about her life \u2014 except her Mars research.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cNotes on Mars\u201d is among 10 Venice Days competition entries that will be judged by an all-female jury headed by Spanish director Carla Sim\u00f3n (\u201cAlcarr\u00e0s,\u201d \u201cRomeria\u201d). The other jurors are Hania Mroue, founder and director of Beirut\u2019s beloved Metropolis Cinema, and Italian director and producer Sara Fgaier.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPolish-born director Kuba\u00a0Dorabialski\u2019s\u00a0\u201cAgata\u00a0the Writerm\u201d\u00a0starring Mia Wasikowska as a Polish-Australian satirical novelist who travels from Sydney to Sarajevo to write a novel about the Bosnian war only to be challenged by locals, is also ensconced in a competition berth.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOther standout Venice Days competition titles include Italian director Nicola Sorcinelli\u2019s \u201cBalcanica,\u201d about Afghan musicians traveling along the Balcan route after music has been banned in their country, starring Matilda De Angelis (\u201cCitadel: Diana\u201d) who is also a co-producer on the film; Nigerian director Damilola Orimogunje\u2019s \u201cDear Ajayi,\u201d about two estranged Nigerian sisters who reunite at the wake of a tragedy; and French filmmaker Robert Gu\u00e8diguian\u2019s \u201cA Woman Today,\u201d about a young woman named Juliette who holds a top job in finance and whose world collapses when she is assaulted by a colleague at a company event.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSpecial events include Italian director Francesca Archibugi\u2019s doc \u201cCarla Lonzi, dentro e fuori dal mondo,\u201d about radical feminist activist and art critic Carla Lonzi; Dutch-Egyptian director Ashgan El-Hamus\u2019 debut \u201cAl Baraneya,\u201d about a young, pregnant, woman in an Egyptian village who is mulling the prospect of a promising future in the city if their family land is sold; and the closing film, which is French director L\u00e8a Domenach\u2019s queer and feminist musical comedy \u201cA Man\u2019s Skin,\u201d which is set in the Italian Renaissance and re-teams\u00a0the director with Catherine Deneuve after their collaboration on Bernadette Chirac comedy\u00a0\u201cThe President\u2019s Wife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=4656\">Han Chae Young Scores a Hit With FlareFlow Korean Remake of Global Microdrama \u2018Raising His Mistress\u2019s Child\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tShorts by Mona Fastvold and Claire Denis will unspool as part of the Prada-commissioned Miu Miu Women\u2019s Tales, a series of short films directed by women.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn a statement, the section\u2019s\u00a0artistic director Gaia Furrer pointed out the variety of narrative forms on display. She described them as: \u201csentimental science fiction, experimental documentaries, history films, family melodramas, anti-hero westerns, musical comedies and other works that freely cross the borders between documentary film and fiction, autobiography and invention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a patchwork of genres that reflects the vibrancy of contemporary cinema and its ability to evolve along with the world itself,\u201d Furrer said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis edition of Venice Days is dedicated to the memory of Italian film critic\u00a0Giorgio Gosetti, who in 2004 founded the Venice Days section \u2013 which is modeled on Cannes\u2019 Directors\u2019 Fortnight and\u00a0supported by Italian film directors\u2019 associations ANAC and 100autori. Gosetti died in March in Rome at 70 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cFor 23 years, without interruption, he was its [Venice Days\u2019] guiding spirit, the lifeblood of the organization, motivating and uniting the professionals that turned it into a festival that is known and respected the world over,\u201d a statement noted. <\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe 23nd edition of Venice Days will run Sept. 2-12, in tandem with the official Venice Film Festival selection.
