\nTotem has picked up international sales rights for \u201cOasis,\u201d by writer-director Jannis Lenz, which has its world premiere in the Horizons competition section at the Venice Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film joins Totem\u2019s sales slate as the company shifts its primary focus to production.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film centers on a school where a viral video of a student threatening his classmates surfaces online, and the situation spirals into escalating violence. Crushed by the pressure of teachers and parents, three outcasts take refuge in a nearby forest. There, play hardens into ritual and pain becomes an escape, until old wounds surface and the boundaries between them are redrawn.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c \u2018Oasis\u2019 captures the fragility of adolescence with great precision, exploring fear, exclusion and violence through a deeply human perspective,\u201d producer Markus Katsch of Zeitgeist said.<\/p>\n

\n\tB\u00e9r\u00e9nice Vincent, CEO at Totem, commented: \u201cJannis is a hugely promising talent, with a rare assurance behind the camera. What impressed us is the way he exposes the contradiction between the violence we\u2019ve normalized and the violence we condemn \u2013 and the world as it stands proves his point every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLenz\u2019s previous work includes the short \u201cWannabe\u201d (2017), which won the Prix Clermont-Ferrand and was nominated for the European Film Award, while his graduation film \u201cSoldat Ahmet\u201d (2021) premiered at Visions du R\u00e9el and won several international awards.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe is a Vienna Film Academy graduate, mentored by Jessica Hausner, has been an assistant to Michael Haneke, and is a Berlinale Talents alumnus.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOasis\u201d features newcomer Florian Gei\u00dfelmann (\u201cSound of Falling\u201d) and acclaimed actor Godehard Giese (\u201cRose\u201d), as well as upcoming German actors Anton Petzold and Mathilda Smith.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is produced by Germany\u2019s Zeitgeist Filmproduktion FFM and co-produced by Austria\u2019s Wega Film and Germany\u2019s Third Picture in collaboration with We Fade to Grey, Ocean Pictures Filmproduktion and Totem Films.<\/p>\n
