\nNoah Wyle knows some \u201cThe Pitt\u201d fans came down hard on his character, Dr. Michael \u201cRobby\u201d Robinavitch, given how the character\u2019s personal struggles caused him to lash out at some of his colleagues in Season 2. But he tries not to pay attention to the online discourse.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe blending of the line between actor and part that I sometimes see, where an actor is blamed for the behavior of a character, or where a character\u2019s dialog stops being representative of the character and starts being representative of the creative team \u2014 as if they\u2019re saying something that they believe through this particular vehicle \u2014 I think gotten a little blurry as viewers have sort of conflated character message and character,\u201d he tells Variety<\/em>\u2018s Awards Circuit Podcast. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t necessarily have an encoded message because somebody\u2019s saying it. Other than the dramatic tension within that one scene, it\u2019s not necessarily trying to be representative of anything larger.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWyle says he believes it\u2019s still just a small but very vocal portion of the viewership that is piling on \u2014 but he prefers not to be engaged with the more negative conversations that might be out there. \u201cMy skin is is too thin to really engage anything that might be coming at me, so I tend to want to say live and let live, and I\u2019ll go do my job, and you can take what you want from me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWyle does say that his son would sometimes warn him when the backlash against Dr. Robby got very heated online: \u201cMy son is the one who calls me and goes, \u2018Dad, they\u2019re really mad at you.\u2019 He\u2019s my firewall. He\u2019ll go, \u2018Dad, you might not want to go to the market today unless you start treating Dr. Mohan better!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWyle understands that the vitriol that came at Dr. Robby this year \u201cwas disappointment that he was acting less heroic than he presented himself last year. But when we\u2019re at our most desperate, we\u2019re not always our most graceful. And we were trying to show somebody who was going through a mental health crisis and was behaving irresponsibly, unprofessionally and out of character for himself as he was asking people to see him in his moment of plight and potentially stop him from doing himself harm. That did get misinterpreted by some people as him just being misogynistic or cruel. I think there was a much bigger picture at play.\u201d<\/p>\n
