\n\tVeteran TV director, writer and producer Ralph W. Hemecker, known for his work on shows including \u201cThe X-Files,\u201d \u201cBlue Bloods,\u201d \u201cOnce Upon a Time\u201d and \u201cThe Flash,\u201d has died. He was 65.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to an obituary notice, Hemecker died July 10 at his home in Glendale, Calif. Hemecker\u2019s credits over the years also include \u201cMillennium,\u201d \u201cGhost Whisperer,\u201d \u201cNumb3rs,\u201d \u201cThe Vampire Diaries,\u201d \u201cNikita,\u201d \u201cV,\u201d and many more. He directed the Fox pilot \u201cRoar,\u201d starring a then-unknown Heath Ledger, as well as pilots for \u201cLawless\u201d and \u201cDead at 21.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRalph William Hemecker was born on June 12, 1961, and studied English at Bucknell University, where he was already making short films. He later took filmmaking classes at New York University.<\/p>\n

\n\tHemecker started his career in production and post-production, and early on was a director on Fox\u2019s \u201cAmerica\u2019s Most Wanted.\u201d He also got early experience on the syndicated series \u201cSilk Stalkings,\u201d which he later directed episodes for, as well as Stephen J. Cannell\u2019s \u201cRenegade.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother big break came in 2000, when he directed the TNT TV movie adaptation of the comic \u201cWitchblade,\u201d executive produced by Dan Halsted and Oliver Stone. That turned into the \u201cWitchblade\u201d TV series, which he served as showrunner, executive producer and writer for two seasons, from 2001 to 2002.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong his busiest gigs were directing 31 episodes of \u201cBlue Bloods\u201d and 28 episodes of \u201cOnce Upon a Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSome losses are impossible to put into words,\u201d \u201cOnce Upon a Time\u201d star Lana Parilla wrote on Instagram. \u201cRalph Hemecker was one of the kindest, most generous souls I\u2019ve ever known. One of \u2018Once Upon a Time\u2019s\u2019 defining directors. A truly passionate, beautiful man and my dear friend. I was lucky enough to shadow Ralph as a director as he knew \u2018Once,\u2019 behind the camera, best. He was always carrying a camera in hand, staying up all night in the director\u2019s office putting his shots together, studying the scripts and endlessly visiting sets in preparation. His passion was infectious. We always knew if Ralph was directing, we were in good hands.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWrote \u201cOnce\u201d exec producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis: \u201cRalph Hemecker was a great friend, partner, and a true artist. His contribution to \u2018Once Upon a Time\u2019 was immeasurable and he will be missed more than words can express.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHemecker also directed feature films and television movies such as \u201cDead On,\u201d \u201cBlade Squad,\u201d \u201cHaunting Sarah,\u201d \u201cFatal Desire,\u201d \u201cNora Roberts\u2019 Angels Fall,\u201d \u201cNora Roberts\u2019 Midnight Bayou\u201d and \u201cSkyrunners.\u201d He launched Mythic Films in 2000.<\/p>\n

\n\tHemecker is survived by two stepdaughters, as well as his father, sister, brother, three nephews, one niece and a great-nephew. Services will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n
