\nBlack Panther is back!<\/p>\n

\n\tDavid Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther and is playing T\u2019Challa\u2019s son in \u201cBlack Panther 3,\u201d out Dec. 15, 2028. The film will follow Jonsson\u2019s character, Prince T\u2019Challa II, as he comes of age after he was introduced as a child in \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDirector Ryan Coogler will return for the third film, as well as Leticia Wright reprising her role as Shuri and Winston Duke as M\u2019Baku. The news was announced at Marvel\u2019s Comic-Con Hall H panel. <\/p>\n

\n\tWright took over as Black Panther from her late co-star Chadwick Boseman in \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever,\u201d with Shuri becoming the eponymous superhero. Boseman, who portrayed T\u2019Challa in the first \u201cBlack Panther,\u201d died of colon cancerat age 43 in 2020, when Coogler was working on the sequel. The character T\u2019Challa II was introduced as T\u2019Challa and Nakia\u2019s (Lupita Nyong\u2019o) son in \u201cWakanda Forever.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tJonsson recently starred in \u201cAlien Romulus\u201d and the adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s \u201cThe Long Walk.\u201d Wright told Variety <\/em>in January 2023 after the release of \u201cWakanda Forever\u201d that she thought the third film in the franchise was \u201calready in the works.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou know, we just had a terrific two years of bringing it out and everybody coming together to support it,\u201d Wright said in the interview. \u201cWe need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup and Ryan needs to get back into the lab, so it\u2019s going to take a little while, but we\u2019re really excited for you guys to see that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first \u201cBlack Panther\u201d movie, released in 2018, took in $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, and starred Boseman, Wright, Lupita Nyong\u2019o, Forrest Whitaker, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira and Angela Bassett. It earned seven Oscar nominations, including best picture, the first superhero movie to do so. The film won three Oscars, including best costume design, best production design and best original score.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever\u201d grossed $859 million worldwide when it was released in 2022, and had one of the most profitable opening weekends post-pandemic, earning $331 million worldwide. The film was nominated for five Oscars, with Angela Bassett\u2019s nomination for best supporting actress marking the first time any actor in a Marvel film was nominated for an Academy Award.<\/p>\n

\n\tMarvel fans won\u2019t have to wait long to see Wright back in action as Black Panther, as she\u2019s part of the sprawling \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d cast. The film will hit theaters on Dec. 18.<\/p>\n
