{"id":493,"date":"2026-05-22T13:46:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T13:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=493"},"modified":"2026-05-22T13:46:42","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T13:46:42","slug":"italian-global-series-festival-in-cannes-launches-second-edition-aiming-to-boost-italys-status-in-the-international-tv-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=493","title":{"rendered":"Italian Global Series Festival in Cannes Launches Second Edition, Aiming to Boost Italy\u2019s Status in the International TV Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<!-- do not apply CSS styles to this element! --><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\n\tThe Italian Global Series Festival (IGS) came to Cannes to celebrate the ambitious event that aims to bolster Italy\u2019s status as an international TV player and announce highlights of its second edition to be held July 3-11 in the seaside cities of Rimini and Riccione.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=491\">Inside amfAR\u2019s Cannes Gala as Rami Malek, Eva Longoria, \u2018Summer House\u2019 Star Ciara Miller and Lizzo Help Raise $20 Million for AIDS Research<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tDuring a <em>Variety<\/em>\u00a0Global Conversations panel, IGS artistic director Marco Spagnoli announced that Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer and director Nicholas Meyer will serve as president of the limited series jury; veteran U.S. producer Marti Noxon (\u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer,\u201d \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d) will preside over the drama series jury; and French actor Bruno Gouery (\u201cEmily in Paris) will head up the comedy series jury.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe panel also featured Chiara Sbarigia, president of Italy\u2019s TV producers\u2019 association APA, Italy\u2019s Undersecretary for Culture Lucia Borgonzoni, and actress Matilde Gioli, who is the event\u2019s \u201cambassador\u201d and recently starred in Prime Video\u2019s Tuscany-set original \u201cNo Place To Be Single\u201d that dropped globally earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThis festival is growing, as you will see from the announcement of our guests,\u201d said Sbarigia. \u201cIt\u2019s truly a high level festival that is making inroads into the industry and has become a rival with other events of this type.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSbarigia noted that earlier this year during the Berlinale Series Market, producers were approaching her and Spagnoli \u201coffering their series and asking to attend,\u201d which, she underlined, \u201cis a great result, if you consider that we\u2019ve only officially been around for two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe IGS initiative, which aims to help drive the Italian television sector, intends to build on the foundations of the well respected RomaFictionFest, which ran between 2007-2016.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Borgonzoni, who oversees the country\u2019s cinema department and\u00a0is a staunch local film and TV industry advocate, underlined that all IGS screenings and masterclasses are open to the general audience free of charge. \u201cI believe it\u2019s essential that to continue creating opportunities in which the audience can truly enter the heart of the creative process,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=489\">Sofa to Launch 16 Linear TV Channels on YouTube in Brazil, Latin America, the U.S. and Portugal (EXCLUSIVE)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThis festival celebrates great Italian and international excellences, but at the same time looks ahead [by] supporting new voices, new talents and new visions,\u201d Borgonzoni added.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSpagnoli also announced that \u201cLost\u201d co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is among this year\u2019s Maximo Excellence career award recipients. Italian writer Francesco Piccolo (\u201cMy Brilliant Friend\u201d), producer Roberto Sessa (\u201cThe Sea Beyond\u201d) and actors Robert Powell (\u201cJesus of Nazareth\u201d), Lino Banfi (\u201cUn medico in famiglia\u201d), Sabrina Ferilli (\u201cThe Great Beauty\u201d) and Marco Giallini (\u201cRocco Schiavone\u201d) will also be celebrated.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOther talents expected to attend IGS include British actors John Hannah (\u201cThe Mummy,\u201d \u201cFour Weddings and a Funeral\u201d); Bertie Carvel (\u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d and the upcoming \u201cHarry Potter\u201d series); Italian actress Stefania Spampinato (\u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy,\u201d \u201cStation 19\u201d) and \u201cStar Trek\u201d icon Jeri Ryan.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFirst IGS titles revealed by Spagnoli include the world premieres of the third season of crime series \u201cDaughter of the Ashes: The Cases of Teresa Battaglia,\u201d about a brilliant police profiler who is struggling with the early stages of Alzheimer\u2019s, and the international premiere of James Marsh\u2019s \u201cSecret Service,\u201d starring Gemma Arterton.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEntries in the fest\u2019s limited series section will include coming of age-dramedy \u201cOne of Us,\u201d a new Italian production directed for Italy\u2019s RAI Fiction by Andrea Rebuzzi and starring Raoul Bova; the international bow of German event series \u201cThe Widow Killer\u201d; French show \u201cLaura\u2019s Treatments,\u201d directed by Akim Isker and Spanish psychological thriler \u201cThe Tribute,\u201d by Sergio Canovas, starring Elsa Pataky and Manu R\u00edos. The first entry announced by Spagnoli in the comedy series strand is RAI\u2019s \u201cUna piccola formalit\u00e0,\u201d directed by Davide Marengo and starring Pilar Fogliati, Alessio Boni and Lorenzo Richelmy.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIGS is conceived and organized by APA with the support of Italy\u2019s Ministry of Culture, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the municipalities of Riccione and Rimini, SIAE, AGIS, and Enel.
