\n\tThe big-budget take on Homer\u2019s 3,000-year-old epic, led by Matt Damon as the Greek king Odysseus, has generated $639.6 million worldwide, including $353.2 million at the international box office and $284.4 million domestically. It\u2019s a staggering turnout for a sword-and-sandal adventure that\u2019s nearly three hours long and rated R, underscoring the fact that Nolan is the most bankable director of his generation.<\/p>\n

\n\tOver the weekend, \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d generated $128.3 million from 81 overseas markets, a remarkable 10% decline in holdover territories. It\u2019s the best second weekend hold for a movie that opened above $100 million, according to Universal, which backed the $250 million-budgeted film. \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d has already surpassed the international haul of this spring\u2019s hit \u201cProject Hail Mary\u201d ($340 million) and now ranks among the top five highest-grossing Hollywood releases of the year \u2014 and that\u2019s before opening in major foreign markets including China, Japan and Korea. Top-earning territories to date include the United Kingdom and Ireland with $46.3 million, France with $31.8 million, Italy with $28.8 million, Australia with $20.6 million and Germany with $20.4 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tImax has contributed an incredible $140 million of global ticket sales for \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which is notable as the first feature shot entirely with Imax cameras. It\u2019s the second-fastest title in the company\u2019s history to surpass $100 million, following 2019\u2019s behemoth \u201cAvengers: Endgame,\u201d with Nolan\u2019s epic taking just 10 days to hit the mark.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn its second weekend of release, \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d amassed $24 million internationally and $38 million worldwide in Imax, ranking as the company\u2019s largest sophomore outing in history. Imax\u2019s coveted 70mm screens \u2014 Nolan\u2019s preferred format \u2014 accounted for $5.2 million over the weekend from just 41 screens across the world. The small-but-mighty 70mm footprint has generated $16.9 million to date, representing 12.1% of the total Imax box office. Since there are so few of those screens across the globe, most of those showtimes are sold out into September.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cChris has crafted the type of masterwork that draws our biggest fans back to experience it two or three times \u2014 while introducing entirely new fans to Imax,\u201d says Imax\u2019s CEO Richard Gelfond. \u201cWe are only beginning to see the impact that will have on our brand and business.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn other global box office milestones, Disney and Pixar\u2019s \u201cToy Story 5\u2033 has surpassed $1 billion and stands as the highest-grossing movie of 2026 with $1.02 billion. It\u2019s the third release of the year, following \u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u201d ($1.001 billion) and \u201cMichael\u201d ($1.001 billion), to cross the coveted box office benchmark. \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d as well as next weekend\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d are basically assured to join that elusive company.<\/p>\n
