\n\tFlexing its muscles as one of the biggest new kids on its film industry block, Spain\u2019s ISII Group has gone into production on \u201cAmor de Dios\u201d headlined by \u201cThe Orphanage\u201d star Bel\u00e9n Rueda and produced by ISII banner label Inefable Productions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news comes as ISII Group distribution-sales house Deep Com Roots has sold \u201cSummer Days\u201d to half the world\u2019s major markets and cameras have rolled on \u201cLa Cath\u00e9drale,\u201d Inefable\u2019s first fully English production starring \u201cOne Piece\u201d icon Taz Skylar.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs a mark of its step-up in scale, ISII Group now has four films in production in 2026 and another quartet released or awaiting release, including Spanish Western \u201cTrinidad,\u201d an ambitious Wild West-set Spanish family saga led by \u201cYour Fault\u2019s\u201d Gabriela Andrada, Paz Vega and Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n. All ISII Group titles are sold and distributed in Spain by Deep Com Roots, a strategic partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\u2018Summer Days\u2019 Closes Half the World<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSummer Days\u201d weighs in as a sun-drenched erotic drama with a thriller edge.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHeaded by Maggie Civantos, star of \u201cLocked Up,\u201d \u201cMoney Heist\u201d creator Alex Pina\u2019s first international breakout, \u201cSummer Days\u201d has closed Latin America, bought by Brazil\u2019s Sofa Digital, plus Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Busch Media Group) and CIS (Kinologistika). Tokyo\u2019s Aya Pro has licensed Japan, Mumbai\u2019s PictureWorks India, distributor of Anatomy of a Fall and Flow, has acquired rights to India, and Scene & Sound those to South Korea.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSummer Days\u201d (\u201cD\u00edas de agosto\u201d) begins with college students Juan (Pau Sim\u00f3n, \u201cNudes\u201d) and Gabriela (Berta Galo, \u201cLa moderna\u201d) escaping to his family beachside chalet for an idyllic summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is described as a romantic drama. It acquires almost immediately, however, an erotic charge, in dialog and the arrival of Juan\u2019s father Fernando (Roberto \u00c1lamo, \u201cRiot Police\u201d) with his much younger girlfriend Monica (Civantos). Juan and Monica\u2019s feelings for each other build, mixing Juan\u2019s resentment for his father leaving his mother and impossible-to-ignore physical attraction. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDeep Com Roots attended Cannes Market for the first time and was met with strong interest from the international market. Among our slate, Summer Days was one of the films that attracted the most attention from the buyers,\u201d Emir Duzel, Deep Com Roots head of international sales, told Variety.<\/em> \u201cWe believe its powerful story and the strong sense of tension made the film especially appealing. We are currently continuing negotiations for distribution deals for several more territories.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tEarly fruit of the ISII Group\u2019s new talent support, \u201cSummer Days\u201d is based on a screenplay by David Sueiro, which was one of the seven fiction winners in the ISII Group\u2019s first Break on Time \u201959 national screenplay competition in 2024. It also marks a return to fiction of versatile director Chema del Prado, behind \u201cIsiDisi,\u201d a Spanish gross-out classic.<\/p>\n

\n\u2018Amor de Dios,\u2019 Led Bel\u00e9n Rueda, Goes Into Production <\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso the female lead in Alejandro Amen\u00e1bar\u2019s Academy Award winner \u201cThe Sea Inside\u201d and star of upscale genre hits \u201cJulia\u2019s Eyes\u201d and \u201cThe Body,\u201d in \u201cAmor de Dios,\u201d Rueda plays Sara Lanes, a renowned dancer and choreographer now living in Paris. When flamenco school Amor de Dios, once rated the world\u2019s best, announces its closure, Sara returns to Madrid with disciple \u00c1ngela hoping to save the place where her own career began.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAt the School, Sara reencounters a past she has never been able to leave behind. That and her own physical decline turns her return into a profoundly personal journey where she has to decide what she is willing to sacrifice in order to preserve her legacy,\u201d says the synopsis.<\/p>\n

\n\tInspired in its origins by an original idea by Spanish cinema great Carlos Saura, \u201cAmor de Dios\u201d is also produced by Inefable Productions<\/p>\n

\n\tKey cast also takes in Asier Etxeandia, co-star of Pedro Almod\u00f3var\u2019s \u201cPain and Glory,\u201d and celebrated French dancer Soleila Chaou, Spanish National Ballet principal dancer Irene Tena and Tania Santana (\u201cLove on a Tightrope\u201d).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tScheduled for release in 2027, \u201cAmor de Dios\u201d marks the awaited fiction feature debut of Paula Palacios, winner of the IDA Netflix 2022 Global Emerging Filmmaker Award and a double Goya best doc feature nominee for two stirring and affecting films, set against the context of African immigration to Europe: \u201cDrowning Letters\u201d (\u201cCartas Mojadas,\u201d 2020) and \u201cMy Brother Ali,\u201d (2024).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\u201cLa Cath\u00e9drale,\u201d Headlined by Will Keen and Taz Skylar<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA new push for ISII Group\u2019s fiction division,\u201d it has noted, \u201cLa Cath\u00e9drale,\u201d a double redemption thriller, turns on Thomas (Keen), a renowned violinist, who struggles to rebuild his life after the murder of his teenage daughter. When he agrees to take part in a restorative justice process with the man convicted of her killing (Skylar), the discovery of a mysterious violin among her belongings sets him on what the synopsis calls \u201ca relentless search for the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBeyond Slylar, \u201cLa Cath\u00e9drale\u201d stars Keen, the distinguished British theatre actor and Private Secretary Michael Adeane in \u201cThe Crown,\u201d Venice Horizons best actress Award winner Marta Nieto (\u201cMother\u201d), Ronald Guttman, whose prolific and long career takes in \u201cThe Hunt for Red October,\u201d \u201cLost\u201d and \u201cMad Men\u201d; and Catalan actor-pianist Peter Vives (\u201cThe Time in Between\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film stands out for its \u201cnarrative tension, a powerful soundtrack and an immersive atmosphere,\u201d Deep Com Roots has said.<\/p>\n

\n\tNow shooting in the Canary Islands, in Tenerife and Las Palmas, \u201c\u201cLa Cath\u00e9drale\u201d reflects director Eduardo Cubillo\u2019s fascination with restorative justice. \u201cTwo people who seem irreconcilable \u2013 filled with hatred and countless grievances \u2013 can, through a simple conversation \u2013 which may or may not be difficult \u2013 end up feeling liberated in a way that has to be seen to be believed; it\u2019s truly magical,\u201d he has said. The film is written by Cubillo and scribe-helmer Jos\u00e9 Ortu\u00f1o (\u201cThe Extraordinary Tale\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tGleaning great reviews, beginning in 1969 when Spain was still under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, \u201cTal vez\u201d charts the perhaps requited love of Canary Islands poet Natalia Sosa Ayala (\u201cHierro\u201d) for trapeze artist Pinito del Oro (Adriana Ugarte, \u201cJuileta\u201d), star of New York\u2019s Ringling Brothers. Bowed July 10, it is directed by Arima Le\u00f3n, turning on their encounter and their correspondence afterwards. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWinner of the 2025 Break on Time competition, \u201cDesde Arriba,\u201d a father-son relationship dramedy, is now in post-production. Mart\u00edn Cuervo directs from a screenplay by Arturo Ruiz Serrano and Jos\u00e9 Manuel Carrasco.<\/p>\n

\n\tA realist survival thriller starring Milena Smit (\u201cParallel Mothers\u201d) and Irene Escolar (\u201cTell Me Who I Am\u201d) \u201cMy Zone\u201d shot in the Canary Islands of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura from May. It marks the feature debut of best short fiction Goya winner Cristi\u00e1n Beteta (\u201c\u00c1ngulo muerto\u201d).\u00a0 Directed by Violeta Salama (\u201cAlegr\u00eda\u201d), \u201cAuri,\u201d starring Cristina Marcos (\u201cMaravillas,\u201d \u201cLocked Up\u201d), a comedy turning on a housewife\u2019s later life revolution, bowed in April in Spain.<\/p>\n
