Through his exceptional body of work, Diego Luna has left a profound mark on contemporary cinema, and it is our great honor to present him with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLuna responded, \u201cIt\u2019s been many years since I\u2019ve wanted to go to Sarajevo, so many colleagues have spoken beautifully about the festival and their personal experience there. I feel honored with the recognition of my work and very excited to share \u2018Ashes\u2019 with the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLuna first captured international attention with his breakout performance in Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s \u201cY tu mam\u00e1 tambi\u00e9n\u201d (2001), a role that established him as one of Mexico\u2019s leading actors. The series earned eight Emmy Award nominations for its first season and 14 for its second season in 2025, including outstanding drama series.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn 2025, he starred opposite Jennifer Lopez and Tonatiuh in Bill Condon\u2019s \u201cKiss of the Spider Woman\u201d and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor for his performance in Hulu\u2019s \u201cLa M\u00e1quina\u201d (2024), which he also produced and starred in alongside Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEarlier credits include the Netflix series \u201cNarcos: M\u00e9xico\u201d (2018), which earned him a Critics\u2019 Choice Award nomination, \u201cStar Wars: Rogue One\u201d (2016), a role that introduced him to an even wider English-speaking audience, and \u201cBread &amp; Circus\u201d (2020), which won two Daytime Emmys for outstanding daytime talent in a Spanish-language program and best entertainment program in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs a director, Luna made his debut with the documentary \u201cJ.C. Ch\u00e1vez\u201d (2007). His first narrative feature, \u201cAbel\u201d (2010), earned the Horizontes Latinos Award at the San Sebasti\u00e1n Film Festival and a Mexican Academy Award for best screenplay, which he co-wrote.
