\n\tAs the guest editor of the new issue of Wonderland magazine, Miley Cyrus used the opportunity not only to talk about the next chapter of her career, but to bring together people she admires, from Dolly Parton and Daryl Hannah to mother Tish Cyrus-Purcell and sister Noah Cyrus, as well as Kelela, Lykke Li, Sky Ferreira, 070 Shake, Towa Bird, Suzanne Vega, Tallulah Willis, Scout Willis, Phantogram, Model\/Actriz, and others. In it, she talks at length about music, creativity and what future acting roles might look like. <\/p>\n

\nVariety<\/em> can also confirm that Cyrus has signed with Atlantic Records after releasing two albums on Columbia, including \u201cEndless Summer Vacation\u201d which featured her Grammy-winning smash \u201cFlowers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe issue features a wide-ranging conversation between Cyrus \u2014 who appeared on the cover of Variety<\/em> earlier this year \u2014 and Daryl Hannah, in which she talks about music, a possible return to acting, growing up in public and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe spoke in general terms about the next chapter of her musical career. \u201cFor me, a song isn\u2019t just chords, melody, and lyrics. It\u2019s a feeling,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s not right or wrong like an answer. It\u2019s alive. It almost becomes its own little entity that tells you what it needs if you\u2019re listening. I love making records with people who aren\u2019t precious about ideas. Everyone is there because they\u2019re excited by the same thing. There\u2019s no ego in the room when it\u2019s working. Just curiosity. It\u2019s really special to be surrounded by people who want to surprise each other and are comfortable throwing an idea away or expanding on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAsked by Hannah about her favorite part of making music, Cyrus replied, \u201cI love feeling aligned with my purpose, my power, and my gifts. I feel closest to something bigger than myself when records flow through me. It\u2019s almost impossible to describe. It\u2019s like waking up from a dream you can still feel in your body even though you can\u2019t fully explain it logically. Songwriting feels like crossing over to another side sometimes. A new song can feel like I\u2019ve already heard it before.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEven if it isn\u2019t finished yet, I somehow know exactly what it is, almost like I\u2019m remembering it instead of creating it,\u201d she concluded. \u201cThat\u2019s the mystery I love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAsked by Hannah about the possibility of future acting or directing roles, Cyrus said, \u201cWell\u2026That\u2019s partly why I wanted to get in touch. I\u2019d genuinely love to do both. My dream has always been to work with artists I admire, and you\u2019re one of them. I think we\u2019d make magic together, Daryl. I have an idea. Call me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe was also asked by makeup artist James Kaliardos who or what would be her dream character to play in a film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cViolence is everywhere, and there\u2019s a beauty in darkness, but I\u2019d love to disappear into something deeply romantic,\u201d she said. \u201cThe kind of love we dream about, but with real stakes. A good old Shakespearean tragedy would be hot \u2013 a punk-rock Juliet. Something fierce and heartbreakingly romantic.\u201d<\/p>\n
