\nEvan Rachel Wood isn\u2019t among the \u201cPractical Magic\u201d cast members returning for the forthcoming sequel \u2014 and she\u2019s opening up about her disappointment.\u00a0Speaking to \u201cEntertainment Tonight\u201d at the red carpet premiere of her new series \u201cThe Shards,\u201d Wood called it \u201csad\u201d not to be asked back for \u201cPractical Magic 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is sad, because we bonded with that cast so much as children, and so to miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes, it\u2019s something that can\u2019t be faked,\u201d the actor said. \u201cI\u2019m sad that doesn\u2019t get to exist, especially for the fans.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the 1998 movie, Wood and Alexandra Artrip played Kylie and Antonia Owens, the daughters of Sandra Bullock\u2019s witch character. In the sequel, Wood is replaced by \u201cThe Act\u201d star Joey King, while Artrip\u2019s younger-sister character is played by \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d standout Maisie Williams.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sequel, out September 11, is adapted from \u201cThe Book of Magic\u201d by Alice Hoffman, a sequel to her own novel \u201cPractical Magic,\u201d which inspired the first film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI read the book and it seems like they\u2019re not following the book,\u201d Wood said. \u201cI think in the book it would have made sense to bring me back; I think in the way they\u2019re redoing it and approaching it, it didn\u2019t make sense.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time Wood has spoken out about the film; last year, she wrote on Instagram\u201d \u201cI offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReturning cast members include leads Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters and fellow practitioners of magic, as well as Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as their loopy aunts. Wood, who was 11 when \u201cPractical Magic\u201d came out, counts the movie as one of her very first roles; among the leading child stars of her generation, she went on to appear in \u201cThirteen,\u201d \u201cThe Upside of Anger\u201d and the TV series \u201cOnce and Again\u201d before making the transition to grown-up stardom on \u201cTrue Blood\u201d and \u201cWestworld.\u201d Literary adaptation \u201cThe Shards,\u201d on which Wood plays a wealthy L.A. mom in the 1980s, debuts on FX August 5.<\/p>\n
