She chose compassion. She chose service. She chose love.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBruce founded Lenny\u2019s House, a sober living recovery home for women with substance use disorder that provided residents with treatment, counseling, shelter, sustenance, and critical life skills. Bruce established the nonprofit organization the Lenny Bruce Memorial Foundation in 2008, dedicated to providing lifesaving scholarships for individuals afflicted with substance use disorder.\u00a0(Her father, Lenny, died of a drug overdose at 40.)<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThese two endeavors were a natural extension of who Kitty was at her core: a woman driven by an abiding and unstoppable compassion for those who had nowhere else to turn,\u201d her family wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=511\">Get 50% Off MasterClass Courses From Spike Lee to Mark Cuban This Memorial Day<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tBruce and her mother, Harriet, also spent many years advocating to clear Lenny\u2019s name; in 1964, the comedian\u2019s career was ended following an obscenity trial that claimed he\u2019d violated New York\u2019s penal code by \u00a0presenting an \u201cobscene, indecent, immoral, and impure\u201d performance. In 2003, New York Governor George Pataki granted Lenny Bruce a posthumous pardon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBruce is survived by five first cousins and a circle of close friends who are described as \u201cher extended family.\u201d A celebration of life will be held on May 29 at Adonizio Funeral Home in Pittston, Pennsylvania.
